The Existential crisis for Putin is his need to find meaning in life. When you have a former KGB agent in charge, you have a country that functions as an enormous jail.
Ordinary people in Russia are scared out of their minds. For instance, the first four days of the war resulted in more than 5,200 people arrested.
Ruthless police teams, such as Rosgvardiya (Russia’s internal military force) are in the streets of Moscow & and other cities to prevent anything “suspicious” from happening. No difference if you’re an 18-year-old kid or a pregnant middle-aged woman, they’ll beat you up and take you in for questioning.
REMEMBER, the Soviet war with Afghanistan caused 15,000 Russian deaths & cost Brezhnev the economy that contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Now, Russia is cut off from Swift and facing sanctions from the EU, the US, and the UK. In a few years, Russia will run into very hard times & people will not be afraid any more.
History teaches people will not tolerate a lack of food. When the money runs out, so will Putin’s time as dictator.

This cartoonish black and white characterization by Russian apologists is disgusting: if Zelensky is not a saint then he must be the spawn of the devil; if Ukraine is not marching on Moscow they must be being completely conquered. All that the Russian apologists can offer is asinine hyperbole.
