Germany's national network regulator says gas consumption last week was down 31% compared to figures from 2018-2021. Officials say that has to do with unseasonably warm weather as well as heightened consumer awareness.
According to the Bundesnetzagentur, Germany's federal network regulator, households and light industry in the country consumed less gas last week than the average for the same period between 2018-2021. The news followed a similar find from the week prior.
Agency President Klaus Müller said households consumed an average of 608 gigawatt-hours per day in calendar week 41, compared to 881 GWh/day in previous years — a drop of 31%.
Weekly industry consumption was 1,152 GWh/day compared with an earlier average of 1,526 GWh/day from 2018-2021.
Speaking in the western German city of Bonn, Müller noted that Germany is currently well positioned to make it through the winter without serious trouble, despite Russia's invasion of Ukraine and what that has meant for Europe's gas supply.
He noted the work of the federal government in filling strategic gas reserves as having helped get Germany on better footing, adding: "We're also seeing the first gas consumption savings. That is encouraging, we have to keep it up."
Germany's reserves are currently at 96.49% of capacity, despite a halt to Russian gas imports in August — Russia had been Germany's main gas supplier until Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of neighboring Ukraine.

“Remind me why we should oppose global warming again?”
Hehe. Score 1. *thumbs up*
It won’t be that long. Joe Bastardi forecasts that Nov, Dec, and Jan are going to be tough.
He’s been spot on already for this fall. He predicted a very mild, beautiful fall through October, and here we are. For the northeast, the forecast for all the next week is in the 60’s.
I’ll take it. We just got ONE oil tank filled and it about cost us our firstborn. The cost of home heating oil is criminal.

I have heard and read the same thing from multiple sources.
Early months of 2023 going to get interesting.
Mr. mm and I are just finishing up cutting, splitting and stacking our firewood for next winter. This winter’s is already done, and God provided us with a nice supply of timber for cutting and splitting. It’s going into our woodshed to finish seasoning for next year.
Also, aside from saving heating costs, I hang out my laundry to dry, and that saves a lot of money. Can’t do that in the snow either.
Oh look, the Polish moron (but I repeat myself) has Google translate!
Not Polish.

Ukraine won by not succumbing to Putin’s invasion in February or March.
Ukraine also won by pushing Putin back at Kharkiv and now Kherson.
