From what I remember at the time, the story making rounds about Gary Bettman is that he never watched a single hockey game in his life before he was hired as the commissioner of the NHL.

One of the greatest moments in modern NHL history took place during the 1995 Stanley Cup finals. The New Jersey Devils, who would eventually sweep the Detroit Red Wings in an epic upset, were involved in a dispute with the state about their lease at the Meadowlands Arena, and Bettman was allegedly pushing to get the team relocated to Nashville.

I have to give him credit for showing up at the arena and doing an interview on live TV. LOL.
