Last I heard you can’t slander or libel the dead.

They won't sue for slander. They will sue for the mental suffering Kanye caused them by saying this.

OK that's just a guess, but betcha.

I suppose Floyd’s family could sue for “emotional distress”. The Sandy Hook parents got Alex Jones on something like that.

Jones presented his views as a 100% fact, and not just as his opinion. Did West do the same? If not, West might have an out.

well, and also, slander and libel are not applied to the truth. Or put more correctly, the truth cannot be slander or libel.

“While one cannot defame the dead, the family of #GeorgeFloyd is considering suit for Kanye’s false statements about the manner of his death,” Merritt tweeted. “Claiming Floyd died from fentanyl not the brutality established criminally and civilly undermines & diminishes the Floyd family’s fight.”

Merrit is an activist ant this was a tweet. Hence the article.

There is actually video evidence of him both swallowing a bag of powder (when being removed from his vehicle) and dropping one off before entering the police car (when police sat him next to a building, before trying to load him in the car). He had a lot of drugs both on person and in his mouth.

What do you mean?
He did die of Fentanyl overdose which causes respiratory problems.

He was saying ‘I can’t breathe’ long before he was immobilized in the ground, and before that happened, the cops had already called in an ambulance.

The real crime is the indictment of the cop that put his knee (as he had been trained) on the back of the neck, which did not impede his breathing. The way that cop has used as a sacrificial lamb was a tragedy.
