The Russian military continues to lose ground in Kherson. Damage to the Crimean Bridge turns out to be more extensive than initially reported. Russia is also getting very creative and desperate to find Russian men to mobilize, including lawyers and musicians.

I remember a starry-eyed Pat Metheny gushing about how wonderful Barack Obama was back in ‘08.

Pat, stick to your guitar!

The New Atlas
Hmmmm, Brian Berletic offers unusual insight to say the least:

EXAMPLE
“War against China
Brian Berletic argues that policy papers indicate that the United States plans to go with China, before China’s economic and military might will irreversibly surpass that of the US in the early 2030s.

For that the US marines have done away with all their main battle tanks and other weapons systems to focus on Navy-centric warfighting. The war would focus on challenging the Chinese Navy in the South China sea, to cause enough disturbance and through that bring about economic hardship.”

Thanks Zhang Fei. Shakespeare liked musicians, clearly Pooty-Poot is not a fan of the arts. ;^)
And from the "No ****" Desk: Damage to the Crimean Bridge turns out to be more extensive than initially reported.

Does “musician” mean violinist playing Tchaikovsky or “aspiring rapper”? If the second, then maybe Ukraine should just surrender now. :-)

A lawless dictatorship certainly doesn’t need lawyers.

“Russia even tried to join NATO, to really end the cold war once and for all, but was rebuffed.”

Again, you exaggerate and jump to conclusions. There was some casual chit-chat about what-ifs; but there was no serious discussion, and Russia never applied to join NATO. And the whole process of becoming a member of NATO begins with that application (and it is a rather complicated procedure from there, as certain criteria must be met, and a unanimous vote of all existing members must be achieved).

NATO and Russia did enter into some cooperative agreements, but as co-equal partners, and for the terms set forth in those agreements only. And both Russia and NATO wanted to keep it that way.

(Also, recall that in 1994 Russia created the CSTO
— comprised of former Soviet states — as an “eastern” and Russian-dominated alliance, but similar in function to NATO; but not in any way part of or aligned with NATO, except for a few very specific and limited agreements of mutual benefit.)

So, you see, Russia never TRIED to join NATO. And thus, Russia could not have been rebuffed (denied), unless you think not giving active encouragement is a rebuttal.

It’s kind of like a senior in high school wanting to go to the USMA (West Point), and even informally chatting about it with someone in the Commandant’s office, who describes the rigorous road one could expect to encounter; but never doing anything more than that (i.e., no filing of an application; no submission of scholastic records; no Congressional nomination; no formal interview, etc.).

You’d be more credible, perhaps, if you ditched hyperbole and sensationalism and alarmism and tried instead to stick to known facts and supportable conclusions. It would advance the discussion rather than derail it.

"Austin, the Cold War is over."
"Well, finally those Capitalist pigs will pay for their crimes, eh Comrades?"
"No, Austin, we won!"
"Oh groovy, smashing, Yay Capitalism!"

It disgusts me that so many of the intelligentsia think that military service is a punishment.

Real soldiers do not want anything to do with worthless comrades.

Military service is honorable, and it should not be considered to be a punishment.

FWIW the Cuban Missile Crisis came about because the Russians were responding to the provocation of American IRBMs based in Turkey. Shortly after the Russian missiles were removed from Cuba, the American missiles were quietly removed from Turkey.

You probably didn’t learn about that in government school/college. I know I didn’t.

Musk has provided more aid to the Ukraine than any other person on the planet.

Aside for the stupid comment by the ambassador, I find that hard to believe.

LOL! Is that before or after he waxed eloquently about “shagging?”

That was a clever movie, and a great parody. Lots of fun!

She looks a lot like a woman I used to work with. The same hair color and style, the same facial expressions and the same uneven hands-on-the-hips posture when she disagreed with someone.

And she was a hoot after work at Happy Hour. Very salty sense of humor.
