“indicate the fire possibly started from an inappropriately discarded cigarette in the parking area,”

I suppose it could happen if a vehicle was leaking gasoline. But, it sounds and smells like BS to me. I’ve seen millions of cigarettes tossed out in parking lots and have yet to see a single fire of any size.

Short out enough cells to start a battery fire.
Cannot be difficult, EV’s manage to do it spontaneously far too often.

That picture shows part of the answer ... it was not an asphalt parking lot but a hay field that was cut and flattened.

Most parking areas out in the country are little more than hay fields anyways.

Like most Scarborough Faires across the country ...

I understand cigarettes can cause fires in wooded areas. But, this was a parking lot.

Gotta be very careful this time of year to avoid parking a gas vehicle over piles of dry leaves.

With a remote control, hacking into it? Sounds like you’d have to put it on a lift to install the little booby trap. Then you’d need a few bodaciously large relays. It could be done, but it isn’t the best way to make a drone car bomb. The best way would be to use any car, gas or electric, with a remotely detonated high explosive charge.

Doubt an explosive charge would be required.
I can think of several ways to penetrate the battery pack and short it out.
Not likely to get an actual explosion but the EV fires are very hard to put out and are also very toxic.

On another topic, do you have a rifling machine?

Now that I am retired and have a nice machine shop, I have an interest in making a rifle from scratch. I suspect a sine-bar cut-rifling machine would do the trick.
