So it was fine when we did it in Iraq and Serbia? With MUCH more indiscriminate bombing.

Our bombs are holy, is that it? Because our motives are so pure?

The Donbass is right up against Russia. How close is Iraq to America? What excuse do you make for us, while condemning Russia?

"Not an inch of NATO's present military jurisdiction will spread in an eastern direction." James Baker\

You can't possibly be that ignorant, so it has to be a deliberate misrepresentation, a lie.

Gorbachev, the President of the Soviet Union at the time said there was no promise not to enlarge NATO eastward past Germany. Former Soviet Foreign Minister, Eduard Shevardnadze also agreed, there was no limit on NATO enlargement.

No expansion of NATO eastward only covered East Germany. That's why there is a treaty-Treaty on the Final Settlement with Respect to Germany, which states NATO troops would not be stationed in former East Germany.

Gorbachev, the head of the Soviet Union confirmed this in later interviews, that there was no promise, since NATO expansion past Germany was never brought up in discussions.

The topic of “NATO expansion” was not discussed at all, and it wasn’t brought up in those years. I say this with full responsibility. Not a singe Eastern European country raised the issue, not even after the Warsaw Pact ceased to exist in 1991. Western leaders didn’t bring it up, either. Another issue we brought up was discussed: making sure that NATO’s military structures would not advance and that additional armed forces from the alliance would not be deployed on the territory of the then-GDR after German reunification. Baker’s statement, mentioned in your question, was made in that context. Kohl and [German Vice Chancellor Hans-Dietrich] Genscher talked about it.

It’s rather humorous to see you address the expansion of
NATO. Evidently you think NATO sends its people out daily
to distribute door hangers to various nations, imploring
them to join.

It just couldn’t be that these people have never trusted
Russia after the fall of the USSR. They weren’t able to
notice that the leaders of the USSR transitioned with the
government to Russia. New name, same ruthless people...

They weren’t able to notice that the leader of the brutal
KGB had become president. They weren’t able to notice that
Russia’s elections best resemble our 2020 election, but
theirs have since the 1920s. Putin has been there for
eighteen years, and there’s not a hint that he is going to
be replaced anytime soon, unless he goes toes up.

They just weren’t capable of thinking for themselves and
coming to the conclusion they would be safer if they had
an organization behind them, that would help them if they
were besieged by Russia.

Then when they sent a formal request to join NATO, why it
was NATO’s fault. That evil NATO was behind it all. It
would have been far better for these nations to all align
with Russia.

As for the Ukraine it applied to join NATO in 2004. It was
turned down by this same organization you blame for everyone
else joining. In 2004, they said they would revisit the
decision on the Ukraine, but until earlier this year, I
don’t believe they did. That’s eighteen years. Boy that
NATO is sure desperate to add more nations huh.

The Ukraine applied at least once more this year, and
perhaps twice if what I read recently was true that implied
Levensky had tried again.

So far, that mean old organization that has plotted against
Russia for decades, hasn’t let the Ukraine join.

Now however, after Russia invading the Ukraine, the mean
old Finland and that other nation that never takes sides,
have finally decided they have no choice but to join NATO
themselves.

Damn that NATO. Poor Finland and Sweden. Boy have they
been hoodwinked.

The last I heard, the Ukraine had not invaded Russia.
We did not invade Russia. Our troops are not fighting in
the Ukraine. Russia invaded a sovereign nation and is
killing its people and trying to annex more land, land which
is rich with oil and natural gas deposits. It’s a landfall
of value to Russia, because it’s trying to steal it.

Now because Russia the aggressor nation can’t win using
its troops in a ground war, it has decided to attack
infrastructure and people even though it has no business
at all being in the Ukraine.

If Russia had been attacked, and it was trying to push
back invading troops and killing civilians as it did, I
would be defending Russia actions. I would not be damning
them and cursing them for not surrendering Russia.
