Is Belarus set to join Ukrainian conflict? Lukashenko announces he will deploy 'joint military task force' with Russia on western border – sparking fury in Europe

Fears were raised today that Belarus could join the conflict in Ukraine after President Alexander Lukashenko announced he will deploy a 'joint military task force' with Russia on the country's western border.

The dictator said this was in response to what he said was a clear threat to Belarus from Kyiv and its backers in the West, claiming without evidence that that Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine were training Belarusian 'radicals' for terror attacks, after announcing plans to deploy joint troops with Moscow.

'Strikes on the territory of Belarus are not just being discussed in Ukraine today, but are also being planned,' Lukashenko said at a meeting on security, without providing evidence for the assertion.

'Their owners are pushing them to start a war against Belarus to drag us there.'

'We have been preparing for this for decades. If necessary, we will respond,' Lukashenko said, adding that he had spoken to Putin about the situation while at a meeting in St Petersburg.

-snip-

'My answer was simple: 'Tell the president of Ukraine and the other lunatics: if they touch one metre of our territory then the Crimean Bridge will seem to them like a walk in the park'.'

He also claimed Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine were training Belarusian 'radicals' to carry out terror attacks in his country.

'The training in Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine of Belarusian radical militants for them to carry out sabotage, terrorist attacks and to organise a military mutiny in the country is becoming a direct threat,' Lukashenko said.

“I’m just hoping Belarus doesn’t just target Ukraine but does something to tick NATO off.“

Are you insane? Do you want WW3?

People let me tell you 'bout my best friend
He's a warm hearted person who'll love me 'til the end

People let me tell you bout my best friend
He's a one boy cuddly toy, my up, my down, my pride and joy

People let me tell you 'bout him he's so much fun
Whether we're talkin' man to man or whether we're talking son to son

'Cause he's my best friend
Yes he's my best friend

He was never elected but has been in power since the USSR fell. He has always been a supporter of Russia and Putin. So you can say that the two are nowhere alike. Do your historical research.

I know for a fact there in Japan it is about 90% pro Ukraine and anti Russia because they are so pissed off about there four Kurile northern islands not being returned since fricking 1945 and the latest provocations in the Sea of Japan with Russian Navy (jointly with Red China) not to mention Putin clearly encouraging North Korea—along with Beijing— to lob missiles these days … But if Moscow wants to pick a fight with the Japanese and newly ascendant democratic West Japan let him try that, to feel a little samurai blade right across the throat, they aren’t to be fooled with.

Those islands are war booty. Germany lost territory. Loss of a few small islands is small compensation for Japan to pay.

Putin doesn’t look much like the “alpha” in that relationship.

I want to see Putin and any collaborators like Belarus defeated sooner not later. This is an unjust war that Putin has started and he’s been targeting civilians from the start.

I want to see him crushed and the misery he is causing civilians AND his own troops and people come to an end. The sooner Putin capitulates and removes his troops from all of Ukrainian territory, the better.

So yeah, I welcome NATO’s direct involvement. I don’t think it would go nuclear especially not if Belarus crosses a line and starts it.

Actually, I didn’t support it. But aside from that, obviously Russia is free to redraw borders if it is willing to pay the price.

But its neighbors aren’t obliged to simply let them.

There were many assassination attempts on Hitler.

List of KNOWN attempts -

Johann Elsers’ try in Munich, Nov 1939, was extremely clever. It should have worked, but...

It was sheer luck that kept him alive through all of this (or the intervention of unearthly powers).

Belarus has a long border with Poland. The Belarusians have to take this threat into consideration. That limits what they can do.

You have clearly articulated the position of Moscow on this issue, that is the official position of the former Soviet Union and now the Russian Federation—Even though they already entered talks to return two of the four islands so that shows that they are not sincere in reversing course and thinking that it is entirely Russian territory. I made out that Zelensky is very popular in Japan as he signed a decree only just four days ago proclaiming that Japan’s four islands are indeed Japanese territory and received unanimous approval of Ukrainian legislature. Once the Russian army falls and they will fall I would imagine that Japan will begin to sue for the four islands back in return to unfreezing economic relations which are currently frozen with Moscow

Japan is lucky just those 4 islands taken. They really should just leave it. Would unsettle the Koreans seeing Japan getting land back taken in ww2

Some poor girl was streaming a small missile flying over head and she was freaking out. The world is terrified by such a video but somehow everyone seems pretty numb to the possibility of serious weapons being used. When it’s words on the screen everyone talks tough. I would suggest neither side is ready for what this could turn into.

“claiming without evidence”

This is becoming an all too common phrase from fake news. I’m not saying they are or are not training people to attack Belarus. But I am saying the media isn’t doing their job and investigating.
