that threatens to cut off annexed peninsula from Putin's reinforcements A huge explosion has hit the only bridge between Crimea and Russia, a crucial supply line for Putin's forces Footage shows the blast following the rail bridge engulfed in flames and the road bridge next to it collapsed

The cause of the explosion is not known but Ukraine has been targeting Russian logistics in recent weeks Footage appears to show a truck exploding on the road section of the bridge as sabotage is suspected

A crucial bridge linking Russia and Ukraine has caught fire in a spectacular explosion in a suspected attack by Ukraine as the country cuts of supplies to Russian forces.

A train carrying fuel erupted in flames on the crossing, built by Vladimir Putin as a key link to the territory he invaded in 2014.

The only bridge between Crimea and the Russian mainland has been vital to the Russian military for supplying Putin's war in Ukraine.

Ukraine has previously threatened to target the bridge and has been damaging Russian logistics in recent weeks.

Footage of the incident appear to show a truck exploding on the road section of the bridge as it drives towards Kerch in Crimea.

It was unclear if this may have been a suicide bomb in a truck but there have been no reports of incoming missiles. Some witnesses claimed there were two explosions .

A voice on one video is heard saying: 'It seems to me there were two explosions, no? -- If it was a missile, it would hit the second [rail] bridge too in any case.'

There were suggestions Putin may address the nation on the bridge explosion amid fears he will unleash havoc on Ukraine.

He has already hinted he could use nuclear weapons in the war with Ukraine.

In response to your post 78, how about the US invading Korea and Vietnam? How many lives were destroyed on both sides? Why were we in Iraq the first time? Why were we in Mogadishu?

“Most people in the Crimea are ethnically Russian and have been part of Russia for 8 years now. They don’t want to be dragged back into the Ukraine, only to be ruled over by people who now hate them because of this war, that would be a disaster.”

That is not the history of Crimea.

Ukraine will not hate the residents of Crimea. They know the ‘real’ political situation of Crimea.

Semirecent history:
During the civil war that broke out in the wake of the 1917 Russian Revolution, Crimea was the scene of brutal fighting between Tsarist, Bolshevik and anarchist forces.

Following the Bolshevik victory, Crimea was made part of the Russian Soviet Socialist Republic. Then In 1944, Soviet dictator Josef Stalin deported the entire Crimean Tatar population to Central Asia and other parts of the Soviet Union.

In 1954, the Soviet Union, now under the leadership of Nikita Khrushchev, transferred Crimea to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.

After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, Crimea became an autonomous republic part of independent Ukraine, and Moscow and Kyiv agreed to divide up the former Soviet Black Sea Fleet.

However, many “carpetbagging Russians” did come to Crimea after Crimean residents were told to leave, i.e. In 2014, I remember one Crimean resident leaving for church service across bridge was told by “Russian” military not to return. Others had their tires slashed.

The invasion of Ukraine as it occurred is documented in a photo journalism series by VICE news: “Russian Roulette” with dispatches by reporter Simon Ostrovsky is a Russian-born American documentary filmmaker and journalist. Amazing behind the scenes interviews & coverage. At one point, he was captured by Russians.

He is known for his coverage of the 2014 crisis in Ukraine for VICE News and for Selfie Soldiers, a 2015 documentary in which he re-enacted a Russian soldier’s social media posts to track him to Ukraine.
Will not disappoint:

“Why are there so many pro-Putin people on FR?”

OK, once more.

I am pro-Russia. If and when they lose, it will be a defeat for our nation.

I have zero interest in Putin. If he lives, if he dies, is of no importance to me. However, the personalization of important historical currents: “another Hitler”, “another Mao”, “another Stalin”, etc, etc leads to emotionalism and sloppy thinking.

I support spheres of influence. I learned the Monroe Doctrine in elementary school and it seems like a reasonable accommodation to the cause of peace.

To force Russia to accede in Ukraine what we would never tolerate in Mexico is provoking conflict. We have been picking at this scab for decades, until we have arrived at July 1914.

All wars look short and victorious when viewed prospectively. Our Deep State’s war with Russia will be neither.

And suppose the war is won, the Russian state is overthrown and (as inevitable logic demands) is dismantled? The Bush-CIA-WEF “rules-based international order” grows stronger. The authority of the environmentalist, perversion-loving, atheist and socialist internationale over you, your family, your home and your community grows and grows.

How can you possibly want this as an outcome? Victory for a Washington, or a Churchill, but one who plays the piano with his penis?

I see a NWO victory in Ukraine as a boot stamping on a human face, forever, and I dread it.

Looks like they believe what the TV tells them. Funny how not all believed the TV when it came to covid and the clot shot, but fully believe the media with this.

I know you will appreciate this series done with Simon Ostrovsky a Russian-born American documentary filmmaker and journalist. Amazing behind the scenes interviews. For instance, he sneaks behind Russian patrols to get on Ukrainian ship, onto Ukrainian base patrolled by Russian guards, into the infamous vote of Crimean separatists. At one point, he gets kidnapped! All filmed in real time.

You can’t use the previous bad or questionable US policy as a justification for Putin’s current aggressive actions.

A classic straw man argument.

Putin’s egomania is circling the drain. Poot thought he could walk over Ukraine, same as he did in Georgia and Crimea.

The Russian military didn't do so well in Georgia or Chechnya. They were just much bigger and could recover from their mistakes. BTW my wife's late paternal grandfather was a Russian general, and he refused to participate in the war in Chechnya.

I wasn’t suggesting it was a suicide bomber. I was taking issue with s poster drooling at the prospect of it being a suicide attack and delerious with the notion a cancer patient might have stepped up to the plate.

The neocons will cheer lead ethnic cleansing of Russians if it ever came to that in Crimea. What a spectacle that would be. Ukazis forcing Russians out of Crimea at the point of a gun. Never gonna happen. But neocons are hypocritical nutcases

You called the Russian majority in the Crimea “carpetbaggers”, even though the Russians have had a presence in the Crimea for centuries. You may as well call most Americans “invaders”.

More importantly, you presented no evidence that the Ukraine has any legitimate claim to that land, let alone why the US or NATO should be fighting to force the Crimea back into the hands of a country that hates them.

Finally, suggesting that the Russians in Crimea should be ethnically cleansed from the land is flat-out advocating for war crimes, truly beyond the pale.

Ukraine doesn't have any nukes. The US is not giving them any. They used to have them, but they agreed to give them up on condition that Russia respect their borders and sovereignty within them. So they surrendered their nukes to Russia, which already had plenty. Ha ha.

Let this be a lesson to you, young man.

Yes, sir. Hold on tight to your nukes.

I think you need to read more and not listen to what the MSM is telling you.

There are two options for the next century of humanity:
1) America and the west remain on top
2) China replaces us and imposes its will on the globe

There are no other possible outcomes. This war is to determine if Russia and its resources are on our side of China’s.
