Kari Lake’s Arizona campaign looks like nothing you've seen before (ignoring the consultants, etc.)

PHOENIX — Arizona Republican Kari Lake is running for governor as a hard-charging outsider. That’s why it came as a surprise when, ahead of the August primary, a supporter asked her about a rumor that she’d hired prominent GOP strategists closely aligned with the party establishment.

“I don’t know who these people are,” Lake pushed back, adding that she didn’t have “big, high-priced D.C. consultants” and that she preferred her team of true believers, many of them pro-Donald Trump 20-somethings who are new to politics. To drive the point home, Lake recalled, she waved over one of her young lieutenants and asked him to show off his “MAGA” tattoo — which happened to be on the inside of his lower lip.

The episode illustrates how Lake, a 53-year-old former local TV news anchor and first-time candidate running in a key swing state, has ripped out almost every page in the well-worn playbook on how to wage a campaign. And it highlights how aversion to old ways of doing business within the Republican Party is animating a new class of candidates after Trump’s presidency.

Lake is looking to extend the GOP’s 14-year hold on the Arizona governorship, but her campaign has little in common with the Republicans that ran before her.

Lake calls herself her own campaign manager, believes political consultants “don’t know what the hell they’re talking about” and refuses to call big donors who are accustomed to being courted. She ignores advice from the Arizona political class and says she’s not a “huge believer” in running TV ads, where campaigns typically spend most of their budget. Her “body man” works full-time as a realtor, her husband is her videographer and, until a few days ago, she had an old-school website that

Do the same old type of things, you get the same old type of people.

Pantywaists beget pantywaists. And we're tired of the pantywaistery.

She’s great.

She takes it to the press and the enemy and treats them as such. Trump nailed this path.

She’d be a great VP pick in about 5-10 years once she gets in office and develops a record of success.

I like the sound of this.

One of Trump’s mistakes, IMO, was to hire a lot of “Washington Insiders” with “solid Conservative credentials”. That’s how he got stabbed in the back - he hired a bunch of Deep State people.

I think Lake is right to ignore the experts. They would sink her.

I know I’m not on the ground in AZ, but I really don’t see how she how this race is even close...

She is dynamic, photogenic, unafraid to speak her mind, her opponent seems to be playing “keep your head down” best that I can see (Admittedly again I am out of state so have no idea what is really going on on the ground)...

I really, really don’t see how this thing winds up even close... but if folks on the ground in AZ certainly have a more complete picture of what limited view I get.

Is this race really even competitive, or is is the “its close” a media narrative more than reality

The McCain machine is still alive and well. It is one of the most corrupt vote fraud states.

Yahoo’s news is full-bore libtard. Reading its comments makes me think they have a zillion bots puking out standard Demonrat BS. They paint every Republican as a stupid, demonic arch villain.

Hot, articulate and smart!
Any “consultants” here in AZ are most likely McCain infiltrators.
The New Republican Party is living and growing in AZ

That was a great read.

Seems fairly written and shows just how unconventional she is, against just about everyone else.

That’s good news. Let’s hope she has some coattails for Masters too since Mitch cut off his money.

Unfortunately, the Mother of All Biden Supporters, Cheney, is coming to town in Arizona to make sure Arizona stays FOX Commie Blue.

Hilarious. As if this race were even close. Lake is blowing out Hobbs.

Rich Baris - THE most accurate pollster in America over the last decade - has polled Arizona and has talked about the race extensively. Its not close. Lake is crushing Hobbs.

Lake is crushing Hobbs so badly in fact, that Democrats are worried she will likely be a major factor in pushing Blake Masters over gun grabbing China sellout Mark Kelly too. Democrats have also confided that Hobbs is a terrible candidate, she’s afraid to debate Lake and will get clubbed like a baby seal if she does.

Long-time professional consultants, who want to KEEP working, owe their allegiance to the Establishment, which in turn is owned by the donors, not the voters.

She is smart to steer clear of them.

She is also smart to avoid TV ads. What little TV I watch I DVR ahead of time and skip over the commercials.
