The Belgorod has disappeared from its home base in the Arctic Circle and may be on its way to the Kara Sea to test the Poseidon nuke, a NATO warning note leaked to Italian media over the weekend has suggested.
Poseidon is a drone that is said to be capable of travelling huge distances underwater before detonating with enough force to trigger a 1,600ft nuclear tsunami designed to drown and irradiate coastal cities.
If the test does go ahead, it would be Putin's latest attempt to intimidate the West over his failing war in Ukraine after he was suspected of ordering stealth attacks on the Nord Stream pipes last week.
However, doubt was cast on its involvement because - at 600ft long - the submarine is one of the world's largest and getting into the Baltic undetected would have been extremely difficult.
It is also unclear whether the Belgorod would have had time to get from its home base in the White Sea to the Baltic - a distance of just under 3,000 miles - without its absence being noted.
NATO has since sent a warning to allies that the sub has gone missing, but said it is still thought to be operating in the Arctic.
The Belgorod submarine has been in operation since July.

The Christmas day earthquake 2004 was a 9 plus richter scale Earthquake that unleashed thousands of megatons of equivalent energy that produced a large destructive tsunami over a wide area but never a 1600 foot high one. Same for the recent Japanese Fukyama(sic?) earthquake and tsunami.
I suspect a device could be rigged to do major damage to say NYC but due to vaguaries in geology , depth, and other factors the device’s impact would no doubt be limited...I doubt such a device could destroy a 3000 mile coastline. They wouldn’t need to....a drone could just pop up in a harbor close in to a target city and the nuke in it could go boom.
The whole story when i first heard of it sounds fishy like so much vaporware. No one has ever tested such a weapon nor could they ever test it even once in friendly waters to see if it would actually work as fabled. The testers would destroy themselves.

Article is garbage. it is 700 miles from White Sea [Murmansk area] to Kara Sea [you can measure it on google maps] and it goes nowhere near the Baltic Sea. You would not put a strategic submarine in the Baltic where it is easily bottled up.

They couldn't turn off Nordstream 2 because the Germans stopped certification, so it was never turned on. And they already had turned off Nordstream 1 months ago, but that failed to change the West's behavior. So they had no more Nordstream cards left to play.
As for why Putin would blow it up -why did Cortes' burn his own ships, when all he has to do was order his men not to sail away?

Tsunami of radioactivity? Sounds bleak. Why not just detonate a nuke in the atmosphere and take out the electrical grid? Why a tsunami? Makes no sense. if you are going to create the ultimate war which will stimulate a response, why just a tsunami? Its just fear porn and posturing.

I am not sure who blew up the 2 Nord streams. But Bad Vlad is a contender. IOW there are others who might have, and Russia is one of them. Most here count Russia out. All that crazy nuke talk from Vlad and his media stooges, this tells me Vlad is the type who would blow up his own gaz pipeline. That is half owned by Germany, half by Russia.
There is a difference between saying Putin had no motive, and Russia had no motive. If you go with the Cortez analogy, Putin's own interests can diverge from Russia's to the extent he believes it is his responsibility to take his countrymen down this path even if others in the country don't want to do it, and even if outsiders may believe it is not in the best interests of Russia.
