Oil Giant Sells California Office As It Ditches State For Texas
The Daily Caller ^ | September 29, 2022 | Jack McEvoy

Chevron is selling its global headquarters in California as it continues to move its operations and employees to Texas, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

The oil giant sold 92 acres of offices in San Ramon as its workers continue to relocate to its Houston campus, where it has three times the number of employees that California has, according to the WSJ. Chevron will follow in the footsteps of other large companies like Tesla and American Airlines that have left California in recent years for various reasons. “The current real estate market provides the opportunity to right-size our office space to meet the requirements of our headquarters-based employee population,” a Chevron spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Chevron will remain headquartered in California, where the company has a 140-year history and operations and partnerships throughout the state.”

Chevron plans to move into a temporary space that is smaller to accommodate its dwindling number of California-based employees, the spokesperson said.

California’s population declined for the second straight year in 2021 as more businesses and their employees leave the state, according to The New York Times. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California recently blamed the mass exodus of individuals from California on former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

An August 2021 report produced by Stanford University’s Hoover Institution found that 74 corporate headquarters left California in just the first six months of 2021, in addition to 64 companies that moved out in 2020. The report states that the state imposes extreme real estate taxes upon businesses which could motivate business owners to leave the state.

At least California still has a movie industry that produces crap that no one wants to watch.

Wow. One of my first job interviews in college was with Chevron. They brought me to San Fran and put my up in the St. Francis hotel. Fanciest place I had seen at the time.

Now, they’re OUT of there.

Good for them.

I doubt California will miss Chevron. It has employers who pay much more than what the average Chevron corporate employee makes.

Tell that to Elon's Silicon Valley employees transferring to Texas. Making battery powered cars to save the world is a liberal's dream.

As an aside, yesterday I spoke with California relatives who were absolutely effervescing about how they just made plans to relocate to Texas. They both found nice Texas jobs, they are packing and moving to temp quarters. House goes for sale in a week or so.

I've known them for decades, and I've never seen such animation and enthusiasm from them.

Native Californians both, they have colorful comments about their alleged governor, how nothing they vote for wins (for decades). They daily observe crime, dirt, homeless camps, drugs, litter, needles, mean people, crime, crime, and of course crime.

They absolutely can't wait to see California in their rear view mirror.

Not very long ago I read about a person trying to start a business in Kalifornia. He wanted to build and run one of those self storage places.

After months and months of bureaucratic insanity, he decided to try in the State of Washington. It wasn’t much better. Then, he tried in the great State of Texas. Within a few weeks he was in front of the person who would provide the go-ahead. The lady looked over his plans a bit, and he had his approvals, permits, etc. When he asked if the person wanted to take a closer look at all the plans, she stated ‘son, it’s either going to fly, or it isn’t.’ In other words, it’s up to each entrepreneur to make a go of it.

I was born and raised in California, long before it became Kalifornia. I remember Reagan as Governor, taking on the wacko protestors. When he almost won the 1976 Republican nomination, I knew he would not just retire. The 1980’s were incredible, and set the stage for so much more.

We will purge the vermin among us, and once again look to the shining city on the hill.

I doubt California will miss Chevron.

When you consider that Chevron is one of hundreds of corporations that are leaving, the revenue loss has to impact the demonRATs that continue to keep on spending.

Lack of real revenue does not slow down the political class when it comes to vote buying, but sooner or later, you run out of Other People's Money.
