Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a law Friday that will decriminalize jaywalking across California, ending the familiar practice of police handing out tickets to pedestrians on the argument that the law is enforced more often against minorities than other people.
The new law, AB 2147, known as the “Freedom to Walk Act,” could bring an end to a cultural difference that has marked otherwise libertine Californians as being uniquely deferential to laws governing pedestrian traffic. The difference between Californians, who ostensibly tend to obey “don’t walk” signals, and urban dwellers elsewhere in the country, who are notoriously defiant when it comes to crossing against traffic signals, was lampooned in the 2011 film Friends with Benefits, starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake:

“What we do and how we do it must not be crime”, that is core value of civil rights movement
Pedestrian and children hit hardest Newsom gives self atta boy gold star.
I jaywalk every chance I get and I agree, it’s racist against us honkies.
I think only egotistical retards and sociopaths are in government now.
“They do like to walk in the road.....WTH is that anyway?”
It’s that Beatles’ White Album. “Why don’t we do it in the road?” That album has caused more murder and jaywalking than any album in history.
“Freedom to Walk Act,”
I really thought this was going to be the Bee…
Indeed.

I like this. Dumb people will get run over and removed from society.
A friend of mine was hit by a car and was severely injured —disabled for life — while crossing the Pacific Coast Highway. One of the things the investigators looked into was whether he had been jaywalking. They determined he had not and, since he was not otherwise at fault, he stands to receive a large civil settlement.
You can’t protect stupid people from themselves, although getting a ticket might be enough of an incentive for some of them to cross properly, even if getting smacked by a car is not. It might also be useful in determining fault when people do get smacked.
In Chicago they have all but decriminalized car jacking.
Gets rid of the riff raft.
Jaywalking laws inhibit jaywalking.
Jaywalking will now increase.
There are always deaths from jaywalking.
The jaywalking death count will increase.
Blacks are more likely to jaywalk than whites.
Blacks will suffer disproportionately from this law chsnge. There will be more black deaths.
Is this stupidity or a plan?
I have a backup camera on my car that is activated when I put my car in reverse and I sit with my foot on the brake until everything is clear. I cannot tell you how many times I see Amish people veer towards my rear bumper when the brake lights are on. They can be 10 feet away and they will rush and slow down behind my car, so close that the warning light beeps a solid red light until they pass. It is almost as if they are intentionally wanting to be bumped. I make a point to back in my spots now and encourage everyone to do the same.
They certainly wouldn’t be hurt but I am sure they would hire the law firm ‘Dewey, Cheatem and Howe’ for a surefire windfall.
My favorite story is of walking near my DC office and bumping into Atty. Gen. William Sessions. The two of us waited for a green light when a car made a sharp turn and nearly hit us. He giggled and so did I.
Oh, and when I do back in and Amish are walking past my car, they either stop and wait for me to leave or they move away from my car instead of towards it.
There are more “minorities of color’ than white folk left in Commiefornia so simple math dictates that more ‘Minorities of color’ will be breaking all laws MORE than white folks.
I know, MATH is racist.
In living here 57 of my 61 years, being a native San Franciscian and having worked and gigged all over the state, I have never even *heard* of anyone I know getting a ticket for jaywalking.
