You really had to reach for that one, didn’t you.

Europe was NEVER going to completely cut off Russian Nat Gas supply, their people would FREEZE TO DEATH IN THE COLD AN DARK OF WINTER!

The EUROWEINIES in charge would make much noise and lots of blather about how EVIL the Russians are but they are not going to CRAP ON THEIR OWN DINNER PLATE.

So for awhile shut down deliveries and hope to make up supply elsewhere, restart the Nuke plants, cut down your forests and burn wood, or burn (OH MY GOD) COAL.

The ENVIRONAZIS would have their heads under any of those circumstances, do none of the above and the regular citizens would have their heads when Grandma and Grampa die from the cold!

No gas was moving in either of the Nordstream pipelines, and there was no indication it would. IF the Canadians shipped Russia the turbines it needs for Nordstream 1, one might speculate otherwise was in the future. Are those turbines shipped yet?

I'm sorry, that is just ignorant nonsense and hyperbole. The Euroweenies ARE making up supply elsewhere, filling reserves, etc. Most of the population is supportive of those efforts (tho' not happy about prices.)

That said, the Euroweenies will fall short, but not fatally so. The best I can figure from perusing various energy industry websites is that they may face a running average shortage of ~10% in the coldest couple months. Peak (hourly) shortages might go a bit higher, but conservation, grid management, and rolling blackouts CAN manage this. Cutting power or pressure for an hour even 4 times a day should not kill anyone. Well, maybe a very few who improperly fire up ill ventilated kerosene heaters or generators or something will off themselves.

We in the mid-South USA faced FAR worse in the 2009 ice storm. (I was right in the bullseye, too.) Many people had NO power in brutal cold for days, some for 3 full weeks. Nor was there any travel for 2-3 days in rural areas (longer in remote areas). In 10 states affected, 65 people died from the storm - most from CO poisoning as mentioned above. And, IMO, this was one case where warnings were insufficient, and in any event came with only a couple days at most to make any extra preparations.
