That war, hidden behind the U.S. created Ukraine crisis, is designed to destroy Europe’s manufacturing advantage compared to the U.S. It is more likely though to strengthen the economic position of China and other Asian economies.
I have argued that Germany must open the Nord Stream II pipeline which can bring Russian natural gas to Germany without crossing other countries’ territory. It must also allow Siemens to repair the defect Nord Stream I compressors. It is in fact inevitable if German’s industry is to survive.
I doubt the Russians are behind this one. An extortionist does not give up his means of control.

Don’t use big words like “sabotage”. The cause of damage can easily be determined. Is the damage internal or external? Is it a welding fault or is it corrosion? Whenever there is an unexpected interruption of operations, investigate what happened before finding a guilty party. Russia would like it to be sabotage — it would free them of ill will and incompetence. All that needs to be done is to launch a pig and find the break and photograph the break. Then analyze and publish findings. You don’t even need to send divers. All the technology is available to come up with a viable evaluation of the problem.
