The Ukies lost a third of that number KIA with their "victorious" Balakliia-Izyum offensive [into a Russian redeployment of troops].

I think it was Reuters, but it was some Western network, actually had reporters in Moscow (rather than in the State Department). They went through funeral announcements and other records in Russia and estimated the number of Russians dead at 6,200, which is right in line with Putin’s number of a bit over 5,800.
Also, of course, considering how the war’s been fought (saturation shelling, air supremacy, etc.), it should be obvious that Ukrainian deaths far exceed Russian deaths.
Bottom line, as always, that ALL CLAIMS by the West are simply for getting countries to dump more money into the war, mainly from US.
