It may well be propaganda, but the fact that Putin has had to call for a partial mobilization and conscription tells us that the ‘special operation’ in Ukraine has not gone as planned.

It is not hard to believe that men now subject to mobilization/conscription and their families are not particularly thrilled over the prospect of being sent to Ukraine. Large flight to nearby borders I can buy. Asking wives/girlfriends to break their arms or legs seems to be a bit over the top.

The Special Operation was dealing with the Ukraine.

I doubt that it was planned as a direct confrontation with NATO and the US.

In their shoes, I would be pleased with the ongoing demilitarization of Europe, NATO and the US, and opt to continue until I saw the bottom of their weapons barrel.
