How do you know what the Russians expected would happen when they rolled into Ukraine? Did the media inform your opinion? 🤣

I confess I had no idea what Russia expected would happen. I do know that the Wehrmacht took mere weeks to conquer all of it in 1941, this while simultaneously attacking the USSR both north and south of Ukraine against a much larger defensive force than what 2022 Ukraine has. So I think the Russians thought the ‘special operation’ would be brief and successful.

I think that yesterday’s ‘partial mobilization’ is an admission that things have not turned out as they had hoped.

Russia has a history of invading its neighbors. Parts of Georgia are still under Russian occupation, the Transnistria bit of Moldova is ‘protected’ by Russia, and in 2014 Russia invaded Ukrainian Crimea and of course 6 months ago Russia invaded parts of Ukraine where ethnic Russians are a majority.

I realize that the history of all these places is complex and that there is a lot of bad feelings that are decades/centuries old. But it is noteworthy that Georgia did not invade Russia, nor did Moldova invade Russia, nor did Ukraine invade Russia.
