Hopefully the building was empty, as many are in China.

Did it collapse into its own footprint?
Maybe China’s construction methods are superior to ours?

A steel tower totally engulfed in flames that didn’t drop to powder within seconds.

Extinguishing that, would be a pretty good trick.
The logistics of it would be a nightmare.
How could you get enough lines to bring that under control?
The water pressure alone would make it pretty difficult.
For everyone’s sake, I hope this report is accurate. I’ll
be waiting to see corrected information.

Doesn’t look like they have much of a fire barrier between floors does it?...

Hmmm, might it just be possible the Chinese (with their real estate woes) have some people who have discovered arson/insurance fraud?
Just a WAG.

Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, has a population of about 10 million people. The 218-metre (715-foot) building was completed in 2000 and is located near a major ring road, according to CCTV.
Deadly fires are common in China, where lax enforcement of building codes and rampant unauthorised construction can make it difficult for people to flee burning buildings.
Looks like there is some mighty flammable cladding between the drywall and the outside skin of the building.
But I'll bet somebody saved a few cents during construction!

“A steel tower totally engulfed in flames that didn’t drop to powder within seconds.”
A traditional steel tower is going to be more robust and have more redundancies than did the cleverly engineered World Trade Center buildings. Note that the new WTC Tower is a traditional robust steel tower and not some clever engineering stunt.
