And if even half of “The Crown” is true, she and her entire family are a real piece of work.

Last of the old school monarchs

Followed the rules with grace & politeness and a touch of that dry British humour.

RIP.

A noble lady and a fine queen Godspeed

(she was my liege for six months in 1986 everyone who visited me and London had to go to Buckingham palace and the Tower of London)

Putin sends personal message of condolences to King Charles 'in face of irreparable loss' VLADIMIR PUTIN has paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II after the beloved monarch passed away.

Irreparable...

Isn't that an interesting way to put it...

Is Pootie trying to tell us something.. ?

Biden just sign the book of condolences. He had a card with some words on it. He copied it in the book. He also looked at his watch while signing the book.

Seems like she was a good and upright lady. I would have liked to see a more bellicose monarch who could inspire his/her nation and dump its treasonous parliament, but I still love Queen Elizabeth II. May her spirit be blessed and and in bliss in the company of the Almighty.

Excellent post.

A lot of the people posting here don’t seem to understand the role of the Monarch and the legal limits within which he or she must operate.

Within those limits, which she recognized from the beginning, she did a stellar job; and she will continue to be loved and revered by millions.

Okay, I missed that. Thanks.
Still, 70 years seems to be the upper limit.

Someone gave me a postcard of Elizabeth when she was crowned. Lost it and all my other postcards when I left my childhood home. So wish I still had that one. A great, great queen.

Someone told me that the queen shook hands with the new Prime Minister yesterday.

The Queen left this world from Balmoral Scotland - the place she loved to be the most.

Yes, she did an amazing job. She was raised as a daughter of the spare in her earliest years, not as future queen, then came to the throne at such a young age. As you said, she understood her role well, and as the British say, “never put a foot wrong.” She took her duty seriously and fulfilled her role admirab!y.

She was expected to be a guiding light to her country and to the world while keeping her opinions to herself. The only means of guiding allowed her was through her own character, as shown through behavior and actions and within strict limits of allowed speech. She carried forward and lived out the best qualities of her generation.

I feel such a deep sadness now that guiding light has gone out. It’s not exactly the same as when Reagan died, but a similar sense of those qualities that once made us good and whole and stable slipping away.

She loved her horses, her corgies and driving her Range Rover, like any normal human being.

I have felt the same way today - something in our view of the wider world has changed, a symbol of many very good, old values and ideals is gone from us; and it feels that many things won’t be quite the same.

Some of the posters here don’t seem to realize how profound the ties are between the US - and individual Americans - and Britain.

I know my English lineage going back hundreds of years; I know all the good that I inherited from that, despite being an American and having a different viewpoint. My husband’s mother was born in England, and he and all of us were very attached to his English grandmother, a great old lady who revered her Monarch.

This isn’t a moment for small, bitter minds who can’t seem to recognize a great individual character and her outstanding personal dedication to Country and Duty.

My whole life, too. She met with 14 of our presidents. Photo gallery here, starting with Truman:

https://www.whitehousehistory.org/galleries/queen-elizabeth

Presidents and prime ministers came and went, wars were fought and concluded, empires and nations dissolved and new countries came into being, and through all the changes and upheavals, she was always there, the Queen, the same Queen.

The people alive in 1901 must have had somewhat similar feelings when Queen Victoria died in 1901 after 63 years on the throne. Suddenly, you feel an era slipping past.
