What is a general supposed to say about his superior officer? As Commander in Chief, Biden outranks him, period, end of discussion. That Biden is an incompetent puppet has nothing to do with it. The military is strictly regimented and a general has no autorized leeway to directly publicly criticize the Commader in Chief.

What am I missing here?

Milley is a pathetic figure. He is trying to maintain his position in the anal-nasal chain. In Soviet Russia or Nazi Germany he would gladly carry out orders. “The military is strictly regimented and a general has no autorized leeway to directly publicly criticize the Commader in Chief.” (Unless he is Trump.)

Well that didn’t work when he worked for Trump. He had no problem disobeying Trumps orders.

I agree that no actively serving general should criticize the president. Resign in protest, then criticize.

Biden used two Marines as political props. This sort of thing cannot continue. But it will continue unless somebody steps up. A general who cared about the country would resign, then make a huge fuss over it.

The Commander in Chief is not a commissioned officer and the position does not designate a military rank.

The last ranked officer to serve as C-in-C was General of the Army Eisenhower, who refused insignia, uniform, rank, and salutes during his service because it's a civilian job.

When the C in C issues lawless orders, the military cannot obey them because of their oath and must say so publicly.

You are letting him off he hook. Remember McArthur? Milley had no problem treasonally calling the Chinese when he disagreed with Trump and also working against him. So your comment only holds for general officers that have character, ethics and honesty — none of which Milley has. Finally, my guess is that Milley approved the use of the Marines for this event despite prohibition of such use by the DOD.
