Sitting members of Congress are being ousted from their seats at record rates, with Republicans constituting the majority of losses this election cycle.
With the 2022 primary season coming to a close, 15 members of Congress have lost their seats so far this year, representing the highest degree of turnover since the Obama administration, when the Tea Party revolution and an upswing in progressive activism led to 13 incumbents losing their primaries.
Though the defeats of New York Democratic Representatives Mondaire Jones and Carolyn Maloney in late August were the races that pushed the number into record-setting territory, the brunt of losses in Congress have been felt among Republican incumbents, several of whom supported the impeachment of former President Donald Trump over his role in the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
The first election year after a redistricting cycle, according to historic election data, tends to see a higher level of incumbent turnover, often due to changing district dynamics or, like in Maloney's case, district boundaries that pit them against their fellow incumbents.
Trump's influence on the electoral environment, however, played a major factor. Of the more than a dozen incumbents to lose their primaries, nine were Republicans, with four among the few conservatives who voted to impeach the former president.
Others, like Illinois Representative Rodney Davis and West Virginia Representative David McKinley, lost to candidates backed by Trump as a result of other factors, including newly drawn district boundaries and the perception that they were too moderate to stand on the modern Republican platform.
Snip
The shift has been even more cataclysmic down the ballot. According to an analysis by Ballotpedia, 202 incumbents have lost their primaries this election cycle, eclipsing the previous 20-year high set in 2018 by nearly 60 members.

I wouldn’t be forcing her to do anything. I would simply be restraining her from killing an innocent child, which society already does every day in a million other circumstances. And no, it would not be “just because”.
🤷♂️
This abortion debate is going nowhere...you are totally disregarding what’s best for the mother!
Someone is repeating themselves.
I have had an abortion. The result was a dead baby and infertility. Abortion is never what’s best for the mother.
“you are totally disregarding what’s best for the mother!”
Well, what is “best for the mother” is arguable. Having a clean conscience and not murdering her own offspring may in fact be better for the mother than what she might want to do in the heat of the moment when she has just suffered a trauma.
But I would counter also that you are completely disregarding what is best for the child, as there is no logical argument that death is in general better than life, since anyone that argues such a thing would be quickly diagnosed with some mental disorder.
So if there is in fact a direct conflict between what is “best for the mother” and “best for the child”, it must be resolved, and those kinds of conflicts, where the rights of individuals collide are generally resolved based on certain well understood principles. One of the key ones is “choose the alternative which does the least harm to both parties”. In this case, abortion is ruled out, since one party is permanently harmed in an irreparable way, while without abortion, the party that might claim harm cannot claim either permanent or irreparable harm.
If you can look at a 3D or 4D ultrasound and call what you see a clump of cells your lookers are broken.
Ok, then tell your story to more women, it may impact their way of thinking. In the meantime...we have an election to win against a fired up opposition that is extremely pro-life as are many independents...it’s the reality. We can either spike the ball on abortion and get our a$$es handed to us or realize that may make November harder and work that much more to win!
Lots of women do...they also vote! Do you want to win elections because we cannot do it with just conservative people, there isn’t enough of us!
pro-choice i meant
“...side with us...”
I can forgive you for not understanding us, and I really don’t care about your opinion one way or another. However, you are certainly not helping your cause with your insults to us.
Really, you are not reading this whole thread are you? Instead of rational debate I have been called names (I’ve been called a homosexual by a few people on here) on here and insulted left and right. Only a few of you put together coherent arguments. Guess what? You dish it and will return it back. I dont subscribe to hive-mindedness and people on here want that! You people picked the fight...not me! My original point was don’t take the election for granted as lots of people are pissed about the abortion ruling!
And for someone who doesn’t care about my opinion, you took the time to reply. Either support your Republican candidate or don’t. The choice is yours. If you don’t the Dem’s will have near record turnout this year, I guarantee it! We will need every vote.
Do you want me to sell my soul to gain the world? What would that profit?
You won’t have anything to sell if the Democrats win.
They will take everything from every one of us who isnt in their little rich clique!
No one can take your soul. But you can certainly sell it, or give it away. Think about that.
This is the revolution as designed by our founding fathers.
the 2nd is backup.
I don’t care about feelings or emotions. I’m approaching this logically!
Yep they’ll be digging out the old Bolshevik flags again.
