Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk spoke at a conference in Norway on Monday, and amid his announcement that he plans to have self-driving Teslas on the market by the end of the year, he made the admission to reporters that the transition away from fossil fuels is happening too quickly.
Reuters reports that Musk told reporters he thinks “we need to use oil and gas in the short term, because otherwise civilization will crumble.”
“One of the biggest challenges the world has ever faced is the transition to sustainable energy and to a sustainable economy,” he added. “That will take some decades to complete.”
This isn’t the first time Musk has expressed the opinion that we still need to rely on oil and gas even as we look for more sources of energy. Shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he tweeted that oil and gas production was necessary.
Musk Tweeted:
This is a far cry from the man who once told astrophysicist and professional pedant Neil deGrasse Tyson that fossil fuel energy was the “dumbest experiment in history, by far.” He also once claimed that the fossil fuel industry was engaged in propaganda against him.
Later in March, Musk praised nuclear power in an interview with Mathias Döpfner.
“You should not only not shut down the nuclear power plants, but you should also reopen the ones that have already shut down,” he told Dopfner.

I see elon got his government loans before he came out with that little nugget of wisdom. SMH
Elon isn’t part of the club.
That’s a feature, not a bug.
Well, duh.
Isn’t that the whole idea. To destroy civilization.
Once the Lear Jet Leftists come out on top (and they think they will), everyone else will be either indentured or destroyed.
Don’t kid yourself.
But Elon, that’s the Plan - just shut up and go along with everyone else.
Elon isn’t part of the club. Neither is Trump. They didn’t get the memo.
Elon has other issues, like how much of his operation is in the PRC.
Musk has a bug up his ass about this “sustainable energy” BS. What is his great plan? Humanity will leave the oil and coal in the ground to rot? It is free energy which is at least as compatible with the environment as volcanoes and forrest fires. Only a fool would shun its use.
Musk’s “sustainable energy” is wood-burning power plants, and a lot of sitting in the dark.
Smartest man in the room-———
ELON got those loans years ago.
HE PAID THEM BACK EARLY...
HE PAID EVERY CENT HE OWED IN INTEREST...
Small Business Administration gives out loans to companies all the time....
HOW many defaulted???
ELON DID NOT CHEAT A SINGLE TAXPAYER
I never said he defaulted or cheated anyone.

2nd - The real objective is to REDUCE WORLD POPULATION.
3rd - The LIES are being manufactured to get you to buy into the scheme.
Many of us have been saying the same thing. Yes, the transition to EV’s and away from oil/gas/powered vehicles will happen but only if it happens organically in a slow natural way.
Forcing a deadline is a dead end.
The first thing that has to happen before any real transition is a battery that will last 25 years and/or 500k miles, charge in 10 minutes, and have a range of 400 miles using heat or AC. That’s a bare minimum.
The second thing is a way to charge all these new EV’s on the road whether it’s rooftop solar on the vehicles, nuclear power plants, or even a breakthrough in small portable fusion power generators. Wind and solar farms won’t cut it. The current grid is already beyond its maximum capacity.
Sometimes the desires get ahead of technology. This is one such case. Movie makers had to wait to produce certain kinds of CGI based movies until the technology caught up. Once it did there was no turning back with all the new CGI in movies and tv. “Avatar” is a good example. Star Wars is another.
I guess you haven’t thought too deeply about controlled opposition.
He paid them back well over five years ago.
