“Remember, Nancy DID NOT have to go to Taiwan.”

The one thing in her life she did right.
Yes she had to go, this shows why. We would have said she was weak if she hadn’t gone .
The US needs to project power in the Pacific.
We don’t ask Red Chinas permission to visit these islands or any other .
That’s WHY we project power, to keep sea lanes and travel free.

Now about that speech she tore up

It would suck to have to go back and do the Solomons all over again.

Coast Guard ships go all over the world. This is nothing new. They do interdiction all over the place.

We used to kid the Coastie kids that they would get a line tattooed between their nipples. That was the water level over which they needed to call in the Navy. Under that level was all for them.

How many US dead, buried, washed away to the seas on that god-forsaken shiitehole of an atoll?

"In this longest campaign of the Pacific War, 65,000 American forces committed were from the US Marine Corps, US Ground Forces and US Navy construction units. The combined losses of all these forces amounted to: Killed including from injuries and missing were 1,342 of the Marine Corps and wounded were 3,170; US Navy lost 4,737 including missing at sea and 2,344 were wounded; US Army's Americal Division lost 344 while 855 were wounded; US 25th Infantry division (late entrant into the battle) lost 216 with 439 wounded; USAAF Thirteenth Air force lost 93 while many were injured; US Navy lost 41 airmen and the Marine corps air arm lost many but their number has not been disclosed. Americans who were taken prisoner were never heard of again.

That is some truly grotesque mission creep, without a doubt.

You do not know what you are talking about.

I agree. In fact, just as Nixon was the only one who could go to China; Nancy was the ONLY American Politician who could make a trip like that.

The President and VP, whomever they are, cannot go to Taiwan as it would be too provocative. The Speaker, whoever it is, MUST go to show the flag and show China that we decide what we can do with Taipei.

So, if we are to show China that we are in control, she was the ONLY official who could show that without Peking (yeah, I know) getting their panties in a bunch at home. And Biden could wring his hands and say, “She shouldn’t go”—all the while telling her to go.

From a political strategy move it made sense—but it does little to make Biden’s dealings with China go away.

The funny thing is that you never heard this discussed in the media or any of the talk shows on ANY of the political channels. Its as if even the talking heads are incapable to thinking strategically any more.

LOL, I never heard that one before. I am a coastie, served in the very waters they are talking about on a 95' patrol boat out of Guam. We do a tremendous amount of work over seas.

The squids always made fun of us until they actually had to leave the harbor and tow a sub in. They went to the breakwater, everyone except the CO got sick so they asked us to go to the sub so they could follow since no one could navigate the tug:)

Solomon Islands is a constitutional monarchy, with the British monarch, represented by a governor-general, serving as the formal head of state. Still, the country, a member of the Commonwealth, is independent, and the governor-general is appointed on the advice of the unicameral National Parliament.

So why is one of our Coast Guard ships there?

Take a look at a map. It's located just northeast of Australia and not too far from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, all the places where China is extending it's tentacles right now and where it's not in the U.S. interest for them to control. China is pretty much doing the same things now that Japan was doing 80 years ago, occupying everything they could in the Pacific. China is doing it with money instead of troops. We already fought a war to wrest control of the pacific away from one country of fanatical nutcases. We lost a lot of good men on that schithole.

China is trying to gain control of the Pacific to extend it's influence and decrease ours. They're pouring tons of money in to Australia as well, their influence is growing there every day. Formerly reliable allies in the pacific are now saying no to us and yes to China's requests. When you're a little fish you have to decide who to keep happy in order to stay alive. For the longest that was the U.S. but now a lot of them are saying yes to China and no to the U.S. It's not good that many of these pacific nations are now viewing China as their overlord.

There is nothing wrong with good will visits by Naval or Coast Guard vessels. It is a long standing tradition among most nations, even adversarial nations not in active war. The Russians under the Soviet navy was visiting our ports regularly in the past. I remember when a bunch came to San Deigo in 1990 and even docked at the US Naval base there.

To deny a port visit is a big slap in the face to any nation to another.

Unprecedented move for Solomons. Do they want to go down with the Chinese ship?

I don’t like Joe Biden’s hold on America, but I am not going to disparage the United States military because of that. The United States Navy has a huge tradition of visiting foreign ports. Think of Teddy Roosevelt’s Great White Fleet. It is history, not a conspiracy.

I went to a military college that interacted with the Coast Guard Academy the way that Army interacts with Navy.

There was some good-hearted teasing that went on between the two campuses.

But we had a lot of respect for them because their appointments were not all political. And you actually had to have some brains to get in.
