Renters are renters because they do not save for down payment.
Says a crusty old man that never had to deal with this.
P.S. The US has never been a free market...ever.
I don’t believe the FED, banks and crony capitalism as it currently operates in the US is capitalism. I seem to recall banks weren’t allowed to fail in the housing crisis. Many bailouts during COVID but most Mom and Pop businesses were allowed to fail. COSTCO and Walmart etc. were allowed to stay open but not small businesses. That isn’t capitalism.

It’s not capitalism when these hedge funds and banks are declared too big to fail and then bailed out by the government (e.g. GFC); it’s fascism.
Up to a point. There isn't infinite supply of purchasable real estate and that portion which is available to hopeful homeowners is dwindling. You can hardly blame someone for not buying something that someone already owns.
An entry level job where the entry level salary hasn’t gone up all that much. Rents to the point where they’re unaffordable. Inflation raising the price of everything. Hard to save the 10 or 20% needed for the down payment. Anything less than that and the mortgage is unaffordable.
This isn’t capitalism. This is corporatism. Stossell did a great show on it when he had his show on Fox

I am against big business. It is not good capitalism.
Turning good neighborhoods into dangerous slums is not capitalism.
