so....
What exactly is the issue here? lol
some investor is going to own those homes, why does it make any difference if the landlord is Bezos or Blackrock?
And, what’s preventing people from simply building more homes? Whoever wrote this acts like all the homes ever to be built are already built. When the free market will easily fix this with other investors building more rental properties as prices go up.
Building of single family homes is very low right now. Multi unit rental starts are at an all time high.
You’re assuming the existence of a free market.
I wouldn’t.
By way of contrast, Blackrock has about $10 trillion of Assets Under Management (AUM), most of which seem to be equity funds. This is not a pile of cash that Mr. Fink can use to buy homes. AUM is simply the market value of all funds with the Blackrock name on it...it includes your retirement fund, 401(k) assets, etc.
Fantasies about Blackrock et al owning everything is born out of ignorance. This same idiocy was on display in the 80s, when people thought Japan Inc. was going to own us. Japanese investors bought Pebble Beach and Rockefeller Center. And guess what happened? They lost those properties in bankruptcy.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. It is wise to keep up with emerging developments in the marketplace. But the growing mindless consumption of economic fearporn/snake oil on the right is outright embarrassing.
Some elements on the right are becoming like the dopey leftists circa 2000 who shrieked HALIBURTON every other day. Today's righties simply shriek BLACKROCK, SOROS, or some other boogeyman.
Despite different nouns, they share the same facile mindset. They're being lead to slaughter.
Are you serious?
These aren’t section 8 homes being passed from one investor to another. These are single family homes that are being purchased for prices that a buyer can’t afford, gobbled up by a hedge fund or bezos and then rented out.
And now Bezos wants to gobble up a gigantic health care provider.
Well, the average price now of a single dwelling house is about $400k.
And, what’s preventing people from simply building more homes?
= = =
Increasing cost of materials, cost of permits and studies like environmental impact statements etc., changing building codes and requirements like adding mandatory solar to new homes in CA, and then finding labor itself to build it.
And that is just the tip of the (melting due to climate change) iceberg.
