Was told at Itaska visiters center that early explores tried to fond the Mississippi River headwaters until one of them asked the Native Americans in the area who showed them where it was?

Been there, done that! One of my favorite childhood memories!
I don’t remember having to walk so far across-I remember it being narrower.
It was pretty cool!

#17 I have been there in Minnesota. I was on the left side there. The lake is the upper part of the photo and river which is just a stream from there starts at the rocks.

You park your car and walk down a path and see those rocks. You can also turn to the right down a path and then go across a bridge to the other side.
