Sad but not unexpected for the craphole NYC has become. Fund illegals, protect criminals, let the former mayor's wife waste $850 million which can't be accounted for- but let something like this fall by the wayside.

This should have closed right after democrats in this country surrendered to the terrorists and voted for Barack Obama. That would be in 2008,

Obviously, the 9/11 memorial museum is no longer a worthy cause, because the people of short memory have lapsed back into their passive ways, once they get into positions of power.

Perpetual memorials have lost all charm for the miseducated and uneducated generations coming up.

As we lose our history, we also lose whatever shreds of honor and glory once attached to that history.

You mean there are not enough wealthy people left in NYC to hold a fundraiser? I guess the lack of people wanting to put their life on the line just to visit the once thriving metropolis has impacted the economy. What a shame. When Rudy was there people loved to visit.

Agreed, although should have never been opened, given that GWB had a role in it. But, we the People didn’t know at the time.

I did not agree with Bloomberg on his idea about the museum/memorial at the start - he was not in favor of it. I think some memorial is needed. But Bloomberg seems to have been right that time would diminish its popularity. He considered it as a bad reminder of the gore, and thought people “ought to get past it”. He lacked empathy about lots of things - a true drone tehnocrat.

Maybe the “museum” and “teaching” mission made the whole thing too elitist intellectual, and a less lavish mere memorial, if done well, would have been (and may yet be) enough.

I went there a few years ago. There was a series of walkways that took you through some of the rubble. I thought it was for the most part, well done, as a tribute.

After the tour, we stopped at nearby O'Hara's Pub in which every wall was covered with patches of all the fire departments that responded to 9/11 in some way. They came from all over the country.

If you read the article its not diminishing popularity that resulted in the museum being shut down, rather it was a victim of NY’s insane lockdown policies during the Kung Flu: ““Two-thirds of our income revenue annually comes from our earned income from admissions,” Jennifer Adams-Webb, co-founder of the museum and the CEO of the September 11th Families’ Association, told The Post. “We were completely closed for six months in 2020. We had been averaging 300,000 visitors a year … and last year we had a total of 26,000 visitors, so it completely annihilated our earned income.”

Museums need to change their exhibits periodically or sponsor events in topical subject areas to maintain their appeal. This is how places like the Museum of Natural History in NYC attract 5+ million visitors every year.

A museum focused on a single historical event — and one that was documented extensively live on TV and the internet with literally millions of hours of footage available — doesn’t seem like something that would have strong public appeal.

I’ve never been to the museum. Soon after the memorial opened i was downtown and stopped by. I went to the plaque where my buddy Joe Spor/FDNY had his name listed. I could only stay for ten minutes and i had to leave- not because i was in a rush but because i could not take it anymore.

Years back would go to Yankee games (Bronx) with the kids. Today, I wouldn’t step inside any part of NYC. Lawlessness rules on the street & it’s government.

I did go to the museum. Am I correct in my recollection that there was no mention of the religion or countries of origin of those who carried out the terrorism was avoided?

” I think some memorial is needed.”

There are memorials around the site. I consider the value of the museum to be a store and display of information related to the event. If it has to be closed at the site, perhaps it can be moved somewhere else.

I’m sure the great patriots like Schumer, Gilly and AOC will come up with funds to keep it open. /Sarc

I used to work with a woman who told me that we should not have gone after Bin Laden and the rest of the terrorists.

i got pretty upset and said “You stood outside and watched terrorists fly a plane into the tower. You had friends of your children stay the night at your house because their parents were dead. How dare you of all people say we shouldn’t retaliate?”

I've visited Ground Zero a number of times...from the time when it was a 10 million ton pile of rubble to visiting the Observation Deck of the new tower. I even got to talk briefly to a couple of the firemen at the small station right across the street from where the towers were.

I didn't even know that that museum existed...if I had I would have visited more than once.

In front of our small town's fire station there's a steel beam...twisted and damaged in other obvious ways...that is from the WTC. I asked a fireman once if it was real and he said yes.
