The GOP strategy is to wait until after the primaries are done and then roll out a “nationalized” campaign after Labor Day.

If this sounds unusual, it’s not. It’s the exact model they used in 1994.

Must be something in the water to qualify to be a Senator from Pennsylvania. You had Arlen ‘magic bullet’ Spector who had brain tumors/strokes, then you had wannabe Pennsylvanian, Joe ‘I’m from Scranton’ Biden with his brain tumors, and now this moron.

I mean Joe was so proud of Delaware he ran as a Pennsylvanian

Explain how having State Legislators appoint their good'ol boys to represent THEM, not you is better than now...

Senators appointed by state legislatures might at least retain some interest in what happens in their states. The current collection of Senators representing the multi-national corporations who funded their campaigns has led to 100 mini-Presidents imposing DC's will on the states - the exact opposite of the Framers' intent. Look at the two Arizona Senators as shining examples of people who are barely aware of what their state cares about - but are right on top of whatever is trendy in DC.

How DARE Dr. Oz run as a U.S. Senate Republican candidate in that state?

The Democrat/RINO Uniparty, especially for the past 6 years, has been loudly trumpeting (pun intended) that Washington DC outsiders (such as President Trump) are unwelcome in Washington DC. If you're not a life-long, career, do-nothing politician (such as senile Sleepy Joe), then leave Washington DC immediately, go home, and never come back! Otherwise, we'll order the DoJ/FBI to raid your home, confiscate all your stuff, and throw you in jail for "espionage!"

80-YEAR-OLD BIDEN IS AS HEALTHY AS A 25-YEAR-OLD! HE RODE A BICYCLE!! AAARGH!%$#@&!!

AND THE 2020 ELECTION WAS NOT STOLEN!! AAARGH!%$#@&!!

Voting for senator is now a prom king\queen contest.
Vs not having a choice at all other than a good ol boy network of Legislators appointing someone in their circle of highest cash donors to represent THEM and their wants, not yours.

Are you people leftist/SOROS plants?

Senators appointed by state legislatures might at least retain some interest in what happens in their states.

First, the people who make big donations to senators now, would go back to making donations to state representatives (in the old days, they used to just bribe them). Second, the leaders and base of each party are interested in national issues. State representatives are part of the base, if they aren't part of the leadership. Party loyalists are now ideological loyalists committed to the party's nationalist agenda, and they will outvote renegades who are more concerned about state issues. Third, there are enough people in each state who are not working in important local industries and aren't affected by their fate. They also are focused on national issues and on the national economy.

Oz may be able to bring it up simply because he is a doctor and has the credibility to speak to it with expert knowledge.

That said, I wouldn't put it past the Democrats to run the strategy to get Fetterman elected and then hope for a Democrat to win the governorship. That way, if Fetterman does win he can step down and be replaced with another Democrat in 2023 when the new governor takes over.

The only difference between this and Mel Carnahan in Missouri is that the governor's office was not up for grabs in 2000, so the incumbent governor could promise to seat a Democrat if the late Carnahan won (which was illegal but anyone else but a Democrat).

So if he gets elected and dies in office and there’s a republican governor Mastriano, Mastriano can appoint someone to fill the seat for a while, correct?

"Might" but not likely.

What is (would be, not was) the mechanism for getting rid of a legislature appointed Senator?

You need to amend the constitution, let's see the actual proposed language before the 17th is repealed.

I see your point, your point being wishful thinking.

Because that could never happen when like minded Legislators appoint one of their own. < /sarcasm >

Governor is a Democrat, so the plan may be to elect this guy with the sympathy vote and then appoint a Democrat who does not have to win an election.
