“Shouldn’t they just pull their kids out of the school?” It would be good for them to homeschool the kids as we have. BUT it would be better if they did not JUST pull the kids out. All parents need to fight the system, not just the ones with kids in those schools. All parents pay taxes for those schools and all families are effected by the morals of all members of this society.

As a last resort, yes. But they are being taxed to support the public schools. They should have a say in what their kids are being exposed to. If the board refuses to listen, vote them out.

All that being said, many of you would be surprised at what education and teaching has become. I retired 10 years ago and still go back and sub at the school I used to teach at. This is a small semi-rural school. Every kid 3-8 grade has been issued a ChromeBook and at least half of the lessons are presented via the internet onto a smart board. Lessons tend to be short on actual learning and more an attempt to hold kids’ attention.

The older kids seem to be welded to their Chromebooks and most spend the day wearing earbuds. They ask if they can listen to music while I’m trying to teach a lesson. Very little actual reading from books takes place. Besides ‘woke’ books in the library, concerned parents might want to try and find out what kids are being exposed to via the internet while at school

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

I agree. If we can land men on the moon we should be able to fix a broken school system.

After retiring from engineering I taught Embedded Computing in high school for three years. I was pretty surprised by the level of non-participation on the part of students. They also didn't remember anything they were supposed to have learned in previous years. Electronics problems are really hard we simple algebra isn't within reach.

I agree, we should attempt to correct this mess. The future depends on the young ones, even if ours are no longer in school.

And algebra is really hard when basic arithmetic isn’t within reach. Most kids cannot do simple multiplication problems 6 x 8 = 48 in their heads. Fraction problems are deep mysteries without a calculator.

Lucky for our Nation, about 30% of my students could handle the subject with ease and enthusiasm. It was so rewarding to see their faces light up when I showed them how the digital logic gates are used to build the insides of the computer. In that three years something like eight students told me that my class set the course for their career. One went to MIT, while six went to Georgia Tech. Others followed CS or Computer Engineering paths.

A number of them told me that my class was the best in high school.

Class grades were distributed like an inverted bell curve with very few in the center.

I had that book once. I’m pretty sure the title is actually, “Go Ask Alice.” But it’s been awhile.

Yes, I read in of all place Viet nam in 1971. The author is apparently Beatrice Sparks who Defoe like wrote a whole series of lost and broken teen true life narratives. Thought it and Sara Davidson’s ‘Loose Change’ may have the frenetic nature and spirit of the sixties in at least in California and the commune west better than any other books. Still read well and are exciting even today.

We read To Kill a Mockingbird. It doesn’t fit the wokeass narrative because earlier publications contained the n-word. Funny thing is back then my Black classmate’s parents not only had no problem with that book but they wanted us young skulls full of mush to read it to realize the injustices that went on.

What’s sickening is, if that trash turned up in an adult bookstore that place would be shut down and the owners arrested faster than Let’s go Brandon Brown on steroids. Why aren’t the authors, publishers, distributors and any school board members who allowed this crap in the public schools, not to mention teachers who see no problem incorporating it into their curriculums not being investigated if not arrested for child welfare endangerment and possession and distribution of child porn? 🤬

Shouldn't they just pull their kids out of the school? Oh, maybe they could even teach their own kids the acceptable morals.

1. It is their right as Americans to protest.

2. Their money is paying for this filth

3. What is being taught to the kids in the Kiddy Prisons by the Pedophiles and Groomers Protection Union... oh I mean, the Teachers Union of course, will rub off on their kids.

I know you do not care. This attitude is why we have the problem we do.

My kids will never step foot in a public school. I still attend all the meeting and make sure what is going on is known. Because it is my community they are dumping sewage in.

You seem to be "thread impaired". If you were to read all of my posts on this thread and my comments on other threads through the years, you would clearly see that such is not the case. I'm assuming, however, that you are just another self-righteous political bigot that gets exercise primarily by jumping to conclusions.

It is their right as Americans to protest.

Yep. You can see how much good that has done.

Their money is paying for this filth

Yep, that should make everybody angry, not just parents.

What is being taught to the kids in the Kiddy Prisons by the Pedophiles and Groomers Protection Union... oh I mean, the Teachers Union of course, will rub off on their kids.

It will indeed corrupt their kids. That is more important than any other issue, which is why I'd advocate they pull their kids out of the schools until this issue can be corrected.

My kids will never step foot in a public school

You seem to say one thing but do the other. How is that? Your own actions show that you agree completely with my stance.

I still attend all the meeting and make sure what is going on is known. Because it is my community they are dumping sewage in.

Excellent!! If only everyone did that!

I have been advocating for organized and incessant push-back on public schools for some time. I have also stated numerous times that the reason we are in this mess is because conservatives turned their kids over to the schools without looking back or without monitoring what was going on. They did so knowing that it was the hippies of the sixties who became school teachers and administrators. The only way this will ever be repaired is for conservatives to become school teachers and administrators. One very important thing that is missed by those who try to make change is none of this comes from the Federal government or some "Teachers' Union". This insane behavior comes from state education boards. That is where the curriculum is established, and that is done under the influence of doctoral-level graduates of full-set leftist universities. Those are the same universities where teachers get their certifications. So, if you expect to have any success in this endeavor, you need to target the source: your state government and the universities.

Another circumstance has corrupted the schools, this being caused by the parents themselves. Most parents complain and even sue teachers and schools when they feel their children are made to work too hard. Parents take the school to task when their children get bad scores on tests, are pulled from sports due to bad grades, or because their child fails to take makeup tests following an illness. The schools always lose such lawsuits because the juries are stuffed with slacker parents. The end result here is a steady decline in discipline, academic strength, and teacher moral. Because there are now ridiculous test makeup rules, the workload on teachers is getting higher and higher.

I retired from an embedded computing career of fifty years. I got really bored. Then I discovered that the local high school was going to cancel its new Embedded Computing class because the teacher qualified for that had a heart attack. I went to the school and presented myself to teach the class. They set me up with a "provisional certificate", which means I was a teacher in training. I taught the class for three very enjoyable years. What I learned about the school itself is very important. The leftist creeping crud is imposed by the state. Most teachers are angry with those changes. Teachers are very heavily loaded with test makeups because they must make a test for each child that elects to take it again, multiple times if they so choose. Parents will sue a teacher in an attempt to recover .001 in a grade point average. Parents will sue to force their child to pass. The principle, teachers, and office staff bent over backwards to make things easy on me. The county changed policy to enable my class to work. State level administrators took pride in making things difficult. Teachers are given written and online tests to be sure they comply with state-level creeping crud.

Teachers work very hard. The work they must take home keeps them busy most of the evening. Teachers grade tests and quizzes, write student evaluations, communicate with parents, write curriculum. Worst of all, they have to make an endless number of test versions in order to test students who want a "do over" or makeup for absence. Then they have to take the online state tests that are used to enforce doctrine and technique.

Be sure you understand the problem before you advocate a solution.
