Actually, rural Japan is less populated than even a few decades ago. I’d say the wildlife is less fearful of humans than stressed out by encroachment. At least as far as the bears and boars are concerned. The monkeys are usually part of tourist areas, so maybe they just were pissed off people weren’t giving up the snacks.

Actually it is animal encroachment on the humans habitat.

There are now more wild animals then there used to be and because humans are no longer hunting them they have lost their fear.

A short hunting season removes the excess animals and puts the fear of humans back in them.
