He picked bad advisors, was assigned a bad VP (because it was thought that Pence would attract Evangelicals because of his squeaky clean lifestyle) and virtually everybody Trump was finally forced to have in his Cabinet was not somebody he had wanted. Do you remember how the Dems kept rejecting his picks?
IIRC, he couldn’t even form a Cabinet until almost the end of February.
So yes, there were a lot of things against him, but he still had this fantasy that people like Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, etc. were honorable people. I think by the end, he had stopped believing this...but it was too late.
Also, we have to look at the role of Pence in all this.
I noted that Pence in a statement said he was "concerned."
I think "outraged" is more appropriate.
