To cover the payment of reparations to local blacks for what was termed injustices from the past, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners on July 17 voted unanimously to approve $2 million in its fiscal 2023 budget — and to add $500,000 to future reparations budgets, with an annual increase of 2 percent.
The county reparations budget approval followed the City of Ashville’s commitment — also on a unanimous vote — to an initial reparations investment of $2.1 million in its 2022 budget — and included an additional allocation of $500,000 for 2023.
“We are at the intersection of yesterday, today and tomorrow,” Commissioner Al Whitesides said, according to a county press release. “This is going to make our whole community stronger. This is something that will help us heal.”

Can white folks demand reparations from u appreciative black folks for having relatives that fought and died to free the slaves?

I think a lot of businesses and individuals will flee those places due to taxes. I don’t live in my home city (controlled by democrats) because property taxes are too high not because of crime. I live in the next county over in the countryside (republican strong hold).

BTW, what proof is required of African ancestry? DNA? Appearance? Documentation? Is one eligible for the reparations if one's ancestors came from Africa but were never enslaved? What if one were white but could document an African/American slave 10 generations back? Would Queen Elizabeth and her offspring be eligible if they move to Buncombe County (that could happen, you know). What if one just moved to America from Africa in, say, the past couple of years? Would any African ancestry be sufficient, e.g. descent from Copts, white settlers in Africa such as Boers, Berbers, Arabs, people who came to Buncombe County from, say, India via Africa? There are so many questions.
I am not against anyone who can demonstrate they or their parents were slaves getting paid. A general to all whom are local blacks, I do think what they are doing is ridicules, perhaps even anti American. If they wish to repatriate how about providing a one way ticket to wherever in the sub Saharan they wish to go to?

Who will be paying this? The taxpayers, in perpetuity. Sounds like a return of slavery to me.

Asheville has sadly been colonized by Leftist Yankee artsy fartsy types. Its sickening. They have utterly no appreciation for Asheville’s history or culture. They moved in, took over and imposed their own Leftist Yankee culture on the place.

Who decides who gets the cash? I’m 1% sub Saharan African myself. Does that qualify me if I’m living in Assville? Do the “aggrieved” have to show their ancestors resided in this county?
How could it be? None of those blacks were ever slaves and none of the related tax payers were ever slave holders.
