The Mandans, Hidatsas, and Arikaras share a reservation with each other in North Dakota ... but not with the Sioux.Quite true, which is all the more amazing considering they were all Siouxian tribes who spoke a similar language.
That being said, my twice great grandfather was an immigrant lad who was adopted by the Sioux. He was very well treated and reluctant to leave the tribe when his natural father located him some years later.
He never fully made the transition back to white man's world. So all Sioux tribes were not hostile by any means.
