Russia has said its forces have destroyed two U.S.-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, also known as HIMARS, in Ukraine.

The number adds to the four HIMARS launchers that Russia claimed to have destroyed over a two-week period in July.

A "high-precision" strike in Kharkiv took out the systems and killed 53 people, Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov, a spokesperson for the Russian defense ministry, said in an announcement on Monday, according to Russian state news agency TASS.

"As a result of a high-precision strike in the city of Kharkiv, on the territory of the Ukrainian Energy Machines plant, two American launchers of HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems were destroyed," Konashenkov said. "53 Ukrainian nationalists and foreign mercenaries were also destroyed."

source in the OP said that Zaluzhny suggested Zelensky apply a new war tactic against Russia, for this they will prepare not a full-scale counteroffensive, but shock groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will strike across the entire front line. Using the advantage in reconnaissance, drones and Himars MLRS, we will create a separate group, the purpose of which is not to make a breakthrough, but to destroy infrastructure facilities, as much equipment and enemy manpower as possible.

Fortunately NATO wasn’t a factor during my Naval Service, We had a couple of SEATO Observers around, but that’s all.

“Russia” as in the Russian people do not want this war nor a land grab.

However they have a dictator for the past 22 years called Putin who wants the land grab.

the original plan was for a swift strike, where the Ukrainian Army would be powerless to stop the occupation and the population would greet Russia as liberators, installing a puppet regime as in Belarus before going back home. They even mistakenly released news articles celebrating the victory on the morning of the 26th.

They had planned to announce the puppet regime no later than Monday, February 28th, to present the world with a new situation before anyone had time to react. In reality, the Spetsnaz units sent in to secure the airport and assassinate the political leadership were by then obliterated, the Ukrainian Army was resisting fiercely and successfully, and the Russian advance was stuck in ditches through their sheer incompetence. At the same time, severe sanctions against Russia were already in force and weapons deliveries to Ukraine were already on their way.

After so much destruction, Putin’s words ring very hollow now: “It is not our plan to occupy the Ukrainian territory; we do not intend to impose anything on anyone by force.”

Ukraine was not taken over in a coup.

In 2014 there was anger that the President went against his promises and the people demanded he return to it. He ran.

Poroshenko was elected then.

Poroshenko lost the 2019 election to a person considered leaning toward Russia.

Luhansk and Donetsk were taken over by Moscow. Read my post above

There was no “coup.” After about three months of protests and police violence against demonstrators, Ukrainian president Yanukovych fled the country to escape prosecution, was kicked out of his own party, and voted out of office, peacefully, by a majority of the democratically elected parliament, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The largest block of parliamentarians that voted him out were his own party members and former party members.

His cabinet resigned. The parliament appointed an interim government, and free and fair elections were held a few months later, despite a Russian invasion and ongoing war.

The initial protests had been caused by Yanukovych abandoning a trade deal due to Russian interference, aggravated by him ramming through unconstitutional authoritarian laws with the encouragement of the Russian president, and culminating in violence publicly endorsed by the Russians.

Guess who wants to blame it on the USA, with no evidence --> yup, Putin and his FSB/KGB.

Don't be a gullible fool

Thanks, that is interesting. It looks like it would be hard to do unless you had either aerial or space assets or some very clever schemes to deal with ground level reflections and path disturbances. Particularly in a noisy radio environment like the suburbs of a city.

You didn’t read my whole comment.

It’s a burst transmission that lasts milliseconds and would be passed off as nothing more than random static.

“they say is high precision but that requires targeting solutions, and set up gets you killed”

Firing solutions are calculated at the Fire Direction Center (FDC), and are then sent down to the firing unit.

After claiming to have destroyed twice as many of them as had ever been delivered to Ukraine, in addition to claiming to have destroyed more Bayraktar drones than Turkey has even produced, while they were obviously still being pummeled by them, it’s possible that someone in Russia realised how utterly, utterly stupid this made them look—

according to Russian State Media that never lies, glorious Russian Army destroyed 100 Himars, 100 F-35 fighters, a 1000 Abrams tanks and captured thousands of American troops. Russian Army is definitely winning, never mind that its been stuck in Eastern Ukraine for almost 6 months now, same area that was already partially controlled by them since 2014.
