DeSantis will be much better POTUS serving his second term as Florida governor.

IMHO Reagan was a much better President because he did serve two full terms as California Governor. If he had been Nixon’s VP in 1968, I am not so sure it would have worked out for him.

Guess what? We tried that. And the swamp ate him alive.
And with that he still accomplished more in one term than any other President in your lifetime.

Nice try though.

That’s so true. I lurked for a couple years before signing on in 2000. It was a higher level of discussion and professionalism then. Had a lot of the nation’s big conservative thinkers posting back in the day.

They all got zotted in 2007 for supporting Rudy Giuliani in the primaries.

I want Trump. He earned and won a second term only to have it stolen. He should have it, and bring America back to freedom as only he can do — and has done.

That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if he stepped aside for DeSantis if RD is interested. He has to be thinking about his age, and the toll on his family.

I hope he sticks with us. If he doesn’t, at least he’s identified some true MAGA people, many younger ones, who can give us hope for the future. That’s something.

Really? I don’t even remember that. (Like Uncle Leo, “I’m old. I’m confused.”)

Trump has more guts than any politicism I've seen. Even more so than Reagan.

Didn’t work? You must be joking. Donald Trump was the most competent, effective U.S. president in my lifetime.

————————————————

Alberta‘s Child; you really must be a child; not to have been alive in Ronald Reagan’s presidency.

And how effective was Donald Trump in choosing his cabinet, his aids, his appointees, his trusted advisors, etc.? HE FAILED.

if only Trump had run his mouth a little bit less and paid attention to more pressing and important things, he might have survived The Steal.

[7] He then spent a year as a History Teacher at the Darlington School.

When I first learned of this it blew me away!

Darlington School is an élite boarding school in Rome, GA founded in 1905.   I grew up in Rome, GA until I was eleven years old and everyone in the town knew about the prestigious Darlington School on one of the seven hills of Rome near Shorter College.

Darlington School’s campus

My family moved back there in 1973 where I married my wife and moved away again in less than a year.   My younger brother and my wife were both born at Floyd Hospital in Rome.

I remembered seeing my future wife on the playground in elementary school.   She was one of the three or four cutest girls on the playground and grew up to be the beautiful woman that I have been married to for forty eight years.

It seems impossible to me that Ron DeSantis in a small way intersected with our humble past.

no, that tells you that Florida used to be rife with fraud. When DeSantis got elected he cleaned house. Come 2020, Trump won Florida by almost 400k votes and the election got called EARLY in the evening.

Actually Lyndon Johnson accomplished more in six years than any other president ever, with the possible exception of FDR. Obviously we can all agree that what Johnson accomplished is still devastating America to this day, but he did get a lot done.

I don’t live in Florida, so I don’t really go looking for the day to day legislative news there. If DeSantis is being put out there as an alternative to Trump, then his reaction to Trump’s greatest achievement is important.

I see that he did comment earlier this week. Looks like he gets it. That’s good.

Dunedin bump.

Lived there for 60 days until our house was finished. Yum.

Check out the Artisan hotel and Eli’s barbeque.

Then go and jump into St. Joseph ‘s bay and visit Honeymoon Island.

Enjoy.

Really? I don’t even remember that. (Like Uncle Leo, “I’m old. I’m confused.”)

The Great Purge of April, 2007. Jim let it be known that supporters of “pro-abortionist transvestite” Rudy Giuliani were not welcome on Free Republic. FR was FRed Thompson country.

Of course, at the time many thought Hillary Clinton would be the Dem nominee and Giuliani had the best chance of beating her in the general election.

Many Giuliani supporters were zotted, others took Jim’s advice and split, never to be heard from again. Those that remained either got on board with Fred Thompson’s quixotic campaign or kept their mouths shut.

There would be another purge in 2012 directed towards Romney supporters (yes, there were once Romney supporters on FR).
