How secret negotiations revived Joe Biden's agenda and shocked Washington
CNN ^ | July 28, 2022 | Kevin Liptak, Manu Raju, Ella Nilsen and Alex Rogers

(CNN)It was the middle of the night in Saudi Arabia when word emerged from Washington that President Joe Biden's long-stalled domestic agenda was dead.

Again.
The culprit was familiar. Sen. Joe Manchin, the moderate West Virginia Democrat, was balking at what effect the massive climate, tax and social safety net plan might have on inflation. In Jeddah, where Biden was convening fraught meetings with Saudi leaders, the news was met with frustration and anger but not surprise.
Thirteen days, two Covid infections and a few bitter arguments later, fortunes have shifted. Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer shocked most of Washington on Wednesday when they announced, after restarting their negotiations in secret four days after they fell apart, an agreement on a version of Biden's long-stalled climate, energy and tax agenda.
It's less than half the size of Biden's original Build Back Better bill, and Manchin made sure to emphasize that name had been scrapped. Republicans are uniformly opposed, and certain Democrats in both the Senate and House have yet sign on, making the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 anything but a done deal.
But after appearing moribund for months, the agreement injected new life into ambitions that many Democrats had mostly put aside. Paired with Thursday's passage of a bill boosting US computer chip production, the President's legislative prospects are looking up.

Remember how Manchin killed Build Back BS because it would kill the economy (again)? According to CNN Manchin and Schumer found a way to pass it so that the worst economic damage would happen after the midterms.

Manchin and Schumer “found a way to pass it” only when Manchin got whatever his payoff was.

Manchin made sure to emphasize that name had been scrapped

He also scrapped that other name: Mancini.

The economy’s already dead. So at this point what difference does it make. My new tag line is born.

From Joe’s website
“ The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 invests in the technologies needed for all fuel types – from hydrogen, nuclear, renewables, fossil fuels and energy storage – to be produced and used in the cleanest way possible. It is truly all of the above, which means this bill does not arbitrarily shut off our abundant fossil fuels. It invests heavily in technologies to help us reduce our domestic methane and carbon emissions and also helps decarbonize around the world as we displace dirtier products.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Senator Manchin both jerked sharply towards the Political Left after having Covid.

Any examples of neo-Marxists becoming more Conservative after Covid?

Probably not.

The country has entered a recession under diaper-brain’s watch, but suddenly his presidency is “saved”?

Spare me.

So many of us keep repeating it: Manchin always gets his 30 pieces of silver to betray America.

And he did it again.

Secret Negotiations. When negotiations are done in secret signifies a payoff of some sort.
It sure makes me wonder.
Carrot:Money? Power? Both?
Stick: Fear?

Washington DC in 2022 is a lot like Moscow in 1950 in more ways than one.

The first sentence giveth, the third sentence taketh away.

Oh, they’ll tell us that it’s a ‘balanced’ approach, and Joe can claim that it will reduce paperwork and delays, but it’s all pie-in-the-sky. The big money is the corporate AMT and more giveaways to renewables.

We have reached the stage where the ruling class admits that some peons (or pesons) must be crushed for the Brave New World ahead. You can’t afford to drive anymore, but you can get a heck of a deal on a solar panel.

But don’t worry citizens, it’s for your own good.

In my vocabulary there is no longer the word citizen. It has become the unspeakable on this forum. Sh itizen.
