headline claims that “indigenous people” said something. Then article mentions an organization said something. Why does the media always find people or organizations to act as mouthpieces for demographic categories as if everyone in that category were subservient to what the media’s chosen represtitives said? This bs has harmed our culture long enough. Individuals are individuals.
I spent some serious time in northern Canada working on a mining survey ... part of the time I was in an Inuit village. IIRC, the locals were getting welfare from the Canadian government, welfare from the Provincial government, and royalties from the mining company. The village was squalid; drunkenness, drug addiction, sexual abuse, and VD were rampant. It’s the only place I’ve seen dishes of “free” condoms in just about every public place, and a supply of the (again, “free”) in my “hotel” room.
Bergoglio has no money. The money he controls came from and belongs to We the Faithful ... and he’s a bloody poor steward of it.

Let’s just say for illustration purposes they could prove 10,000 “native” students died in Catholic schools over 150 years (they can’t). My guess 9,000 of them would have died on the reservations if they had not been placed in the schools. I’ve been on dozens of Canadian reservations and they were not nice places—even in 1968 and 1969.
The Catholic church was only trying to help the “natives”. They likely made some mistakes, maybe even a few cases of abuse, but there was no intentional systemic abuse.
Having said that, I was on one reservation about 50 miles west of that very Ermineskin school and learned a Catholic priest with red hair lived among the Indians of Hobbema. Curiously, there was a spurt of mixed Indian children with red hair born on that reservation. Hmmm...

I have mixed feelings about them. I guess they’re a lot like the blacks. There are those who stick to the victimology and contribute nothing, but rather drain, a civilized society. Then there are those who join in with the rest of us and work hard and actually get annoyed with those who make them look bad.

Now, having said what I’ve said, I have to be fair. My son bought a property a few years ago that borders the reserve in this area. It’s very rural, so there are only a couple of neighbors within walking distance. These neighbors are native and they’re the best neighbors you could get. They are helpful, kind, and my son hangs out with them a lot now. They have worked and own some heavy equipment and have helped my son out with projects numerous times. Honestly, they’re better than any neighbors I’ve ever had!
