Poll: Lisa Murkowski Underwater with Alaska GOP Voters as Primary Nears

Establishment Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) is underwater with Alaskan Republican voters, according to a Monday Morning Consult poll.

Only 41 percent approved of Murkowski’s job performance, while 46 percent disapproved.

The polling comes as Murkowski, who is supported by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), hopes to defeat Donald Trump-endorsed Kelly Tshibaka in the August 16 Republican primary. In March polling, Murkowski trailed Tshibaka (45.4 to 28.7 percent).

Murkowski’s campaign has been flooded with donations from large political action groups. Murkowski ended the second quarter with $6.1 million in her campaign account with a second quarter raise of $1.7 million. In contrast, Tshibaka has $1.1 million on hand and raised about $585,000 last quarter. Tshibaka’s campaign has raised a total $3.1 million.

McConnell, an ardent defender of the established order in Washington, DC, is one reason Murkowski has fundraised better than Tshibaka. “It’s important for Lisa to be reelected. She’s one of the few sort of moderates in the middle of the Senate,” McConnell said of his colleague in April. “We’re going to do everything we can to make sure she’s successful.”

But the pressure on Murkowski is mounting after she backed many Democrat priorities in the Senate, including implementing gun control, confirming Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, attempting to impeach former President Donald Trump, and helping President Biden pass massive spending bills.

She can always get a job with MSN. MSN loves to exploit idiot RINOs who went over to their side and “flipped” into the Full RAT Mode.

McConnell usually supports incumbents because it gives him IOU’s that he can keep in his pocket when needed. But if the past is any indication, she’s pretty unreliable. Sort of surprised Schumer hasn’t given her a ton of money.

Do you recall her opponent last time, after she was primaried out but came back as indie, or was it as a write-in ?

She’ll do it again after this upcoming primary loss. Kelly Tbliski (sp) seems pretty likable. Moreso than whomever Murk beat in ‘06’. What are the odds ?

she has to be defeated by at least 15 percent of the actual votes... in order to overcome the D Election Theft Machine which will operate on her behalf

Supported by The Turtle and financed by political “action groups” tells me she is deep state. Vote her out Alaska.

For me, the ideal Red Wave would be a primary loss for Murk, Turtle and the Lizard.

I’m thinking that even the RINO establishment knows that Murkowski is too old a horse to pull their wagons.

McConnell can say whatever he wants, but a lot of Alaska RINOs are getting old and this election may force them to give way.

Half the people here still defend McConnell“

I wouldn’t say that. Maybe 10%. The rest of us think Mitch is a deep state scumbag and a rat collaborator.

Dems should be encouraged to take Kelly with their second pick. That would neutralize the Moocow.

“She lost in the primary before and then won as an independent.”

According to wiki, she won the republican primaries in 2016, 2018 and 2020.

She’ll be the second choice of EVERY democrat voting.
The democrat won’t win, but the cow will get all their second choice votes.

If she doesn’t, she’ll start another write-in campaign.

ALL of us should be vocal extremist opponents of ranked voting in any of the rest of our states.

It is a panacea for the stupid.

Joe Miller. He had a couple of positions that may have cost him the election.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Miller_(Alaska_politician)
[He opposes federal aid programs such as federal farm subsidies,[84][85] the federal minimum wage,[86] and unemployment benefits.[87]]

AK’s a final four system in November. Murkowski should be one of them. The question is whether she’ll defeat Tshibaka. There’s an outside chance the Democrat could win, since Murky and Tshibaka will divide up the vote.

A senator is elected for 6 years. Murkowski was re-elected in 2016. How were there ‘primaries’ in 2018 and 2020?

Whacky tobacky?

She lost in the primary before and then won as an independent.

1.) She won as a Republican write-in candidate (2010). The way the Alaska law was at the time, a candidate who lost their primary could run as a write-in, and write-in candidates in Alaska could still claim a party.

2.) This time around, there is no party primary. There is a jungle primary of all candidates and the top 4 go on to the general election. Then, there is now also ranked-choice voting. Murkwoski is very much still in the hunt - virtually no one could vote for her as their first choice and she could still win.
