The Covid subvariant appears to be the virus's most transmissible strain thus far, powering a nationwide surge in new cases that hasn't slowed since March. That's a problem, even as hospitalizations and deaths remain relatively low: The longer Covid circulates, the more likely it is to mutate into a form that's both transmissible and severe.

New study: COVID booster significantly delays end of infection
31% boosted people still contagious 10 days post-infection vs. 6% unvaccinated.

A new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM)* has demonstrated that people who are triple-vaccinated (boosted) against COVID recover significantly more slowly from COVID infection and remain contagious for longer than people who are not vaccinated at all.
The study did not deal with the severity of illness with or without a vaccine.
Researchers swabbed infected people and cultured the swabs, repeating the process for over two weeks until viral replication was not observed.
At five days post-infection, less than 25 percent of unvaccinated people were still contagious, whereas around 70 percent of boosted people were still carrying viable virus particles. For those partially vaccinated, around 50 percent were still contagious at this point.
Even more strikingly, at ten days post-infection, one-third of boosted people (31 percent) were found to still be carrying live, culturable virus. By contrast, just six percent of unvaccinated people were still contagious at day 10.
In other words, people who have received a booster shot are five times more likely still to be contagious at ten days post-infection than are unvaccinated people.
The findings go a long way to explaining why Paxlovid, Pfizer’s anti-viral medication, is often not effective for people who have been vaccinated against COVID, with many experiencing a recurrence of symptoms along with a positive COVID test after completing the five-day regimen (as recently occurred with quadruple-vaccinated Dr. Anthony Fauci). This phenomenon is known as COVID rebound.
Meanwhile, Israeli Health Ministry data shows that in the older population (those over the age of 60), having submitted to more COVID shots often correlates to a greater likelihood of becoming infected with COVID.

My mom is 85 now. She was 83 when we all got COVID (she started it) pre-vax.
We have never gotten any vaxes.
Mom had hip rehab at my aunt’s house, where they all happened to catch COVID -except my mom. All who had it in that household were vaxed. Not boosted, but vaxed. My aunt is 79 and she was definitely sick, though over it in a few days. Uncle is 90 and officially positive though he didn’t seem to be sick. All others, though, we’re sick but my mom did not get sick. Neither did I or my son who came up right when it had started.
We are all unvaxed but, we DID have the “original” disease.
And yet, all of us are here. (Mmy MIL died from it Jan 6, but vast majority of all I know didn’t even go to a doctor.)
Not poorly enough.
I waiting to get the booster when it becomes recommended every hour.

Lot’s of vaccinated people in my neighborhood have got the latest round of Covid. I am unvaccinated and I also got it. I would liken it to a cold with post nasal drip and my body was tired from fighting it off. Maybe ten days for a 100% recovery. I know of one vaccinated person who had a 104 degree temperature. I never checked for a fever but if I had one it did not go over 100 degrees.

Flipping through radio on my way home and heard some Dr on Hannity show say he got vaccinated because felt ’was right thing to do’ to prevent serious infection [I believe that’s debatable] and also so he ‘doesn’t spread it to anyone else’ - which is ridiculous bald face lie!! Vaccinated GET IT and SPREAD IT!! ADMIT ALREADY!! In addition I’ve read the highly contagious Omicron variant began in vaccinated and spread to vaccinated at onset. Mass vaccination not good idea during pandemic especially when it is ‘non-sterile’ ie doesn’t prevent transmission.
