I find this amusing. Starbucks made such a big deal about how their restrooms and premises were open to all, not just paying customers. They did their virtue signaling on that issue, and apparently, have found that there are “issues” with such policies. But they are afraid of being called racist or worse.
So rather than dealing with issues at these places of business, they have chosen to just close down the places of business. Rather than risk being criticized for being racist or mean to some derelicts, they will avoid the problem by shutting down.
And the “bottom line” could be part of this as well. Maybe some of those locations had people loitering, messing the bathroom etc, and these behaviors scared off actual paying customers.

Something I have come to realize is that when you are in this class of money, you care more about the opinions of your liberal friends than you do about money.
I’ve been in less challenging locations where the Starbucks bathroom is clearly just a safe injection site.
