Just saw a pic of the perp right up close to Abe right before the perp fired.
If the pic’s legit, the perp wasn’t wearing a jacket, had on a short sleeved knit shirt that wasnt baggy.
How the heck did he manage to conceal that homemade sawed off sized shotgun from anyone protecting the former PM?

Not sure you’re looking at the right picture. Guy was wearing a gray shirt and a messenger bag, common enough in Japan. The shotgun was apparently in the messenger bag.
