According to The Guardian and various other sources, Abe was making a speech on behalf of a Liberal Democratic Party candidate ahead of the upcoming upper house elections at the time of the shooting. Abe was shot up to three times from behind with a shotgun. Abe was transported to a local hospital with a chest wound, reported to have no vital signs at the hospital as of 12:07 JST. Tetsuya Yamagami, the assailant who is a 42-year-old male from Nara City, was immediately apprehended by police, according to Japanese news media.

Simple firearms are VERY easy to make.
Yes Japan has “Gun Control”, except for Yakuza thugs, and of course the very wealthy can get them.
Criminals just ignore laws as shown here.
Japan has a nasty police-state undercurrent that just does not get talked about.
When I was last there displaced farmers kids were still shelling Narita airport with home-made mortars and occasionally setting bombs in the baggage.

Absolutely devastating news that former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, a truly great man and leader, has been shot, and is in very serious condition. He was a true friend of mine and, much more importantly, America. This is a tremendous blow to the wonderful people of Japan, who loved and admired him so much. We are all praying for Shinzo and his beautiful family!
