A data breach at California's Department of Justice has exposed every state resident holding a permit to carry a concealed weapon, authorities learned this week.
The breach exposed permit holders' names, addresses and license types, but no social security numbers or financial information were compromised, officials said in a press release.
The Fresno County Sheriff's Office said it learned of the violation Tuesday from the California State Sheriff's Association after the state DOJ launched its "2022 Firearms Dashboard Portal."
"This unauthorized release of personal information is unacceptable and falls far short of my expectations for this department," California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a press release.
"I immediately launched an investigation into how this occurred at the California Department of Justice and will take strong corrective measures where necessary," Bonta said.

A guy who owns one gun probably owns many guns. And so his house would be a target once he’s gone for the day.
Quick side story: Decades ago I worked security for a major university. Well, one sunny day two armed thugs walked into the campus police station and stole all the guns that were stored there. Only two guys were on duty at the time, and they were too surprised to react.
The thieves hit the campus police station simply because that’s where the guns were.
Doxxing, Democrat created and done statewide.
I didn’t consider that, my caffeine hasn’t kicked in yet and I live in the Soviet of Washington and we’ve had strict storage laws for a few years and everybody who has guns owns a safe. In today’s leftard climate all conservatives trapped behind the blue curtain in a blue state needs a safe since thievery and the theft of personal property is a right of the protected classes in a blue state.
Accidently on purpose?
Not just that. If you applied and were denied, you are now in the public record as being unarmed.
Two problems obvious here, putting aside malice.
The rush to data store everything. Haven’t you noticed that “IT support” doesn’t? This is busy work since they no longer do anything to help — kinda like HR.
Lack of simple firewall security. Such data should only exist on servers physically cut off from “dial in”. Want to access? GEt off your fat arse and walk over there with a hardcopy access form — no, sign your bloody name right there.
“It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.”
This list includes a bunch of judges. Will be interesting to see how that plays out. Would also be interesting to note if any of these judges have tried to legislate gun control from the bench.
All seven of them....
This was done on purpose, I’m sure.
They will need to put either O.J. or Robert's in charge of finding the leaker.
Perhaps California’s Department of Justice should be permanently banned from accessing this database to atone for this ‘error’. Accountability; great concept.
Yeah oh yeah you got that right.
Meanwhile, from NYS...
