Multiple people are feared to have been killed after an Amtrak train carrying 243 people derailed close to Kansas City in Missouri.
It's still unclear what caused the smash - but one imaged shared by a survivor showed what appeared to be a broken truck axle lying to one side of the tracks.

“perhaps a muslim trucking company axel”
Or a radical left wing pro abortion domestic terrorist sleeper cell
Great movie.
Maybe a real life supertrain is the answer? I hope not.
Without even looking, I knew that was an MST3K reference.
The original short actually has some good advice in it.
Looks like at least the last 4 or 5 cars are on their side. In Aug. 2019, latest I could find, the train usually had 9 or 10 cars and two locomotives. Three sleepers, diner, observation car and 3-4 coaches and a baggage car.
Assuming the consist is similar, half the train is on it’s side.
Rural area about 60 miles east northeast of Kansas City.
Local area overwhelmed by medical emergency.

Horrible.
The LD trains are popular for people who want to sight see along the way.

Prayers up for all involved in this disaster.
Prayers for all the first responders.
Maybe there are extra train passengers both from sky high gas prices and from flights being cancelled willy nilly.
The video in comment #28 shows ALL the passengers cars on their sides. The two locomotives look to be derailed but right side up, the baggage car is leaning and the rest is flopped over.
Entire train is !ying over on its side except for engine.
Choo-choos, unsafe at any speed
Slamtrak
Saw a video somebody shot, he mentioned the train had hit a dump truck.
This is one thing that really pisses me off about people who run railroad crossings and try to beat trains...you’re not just endangering yourself and your passengers. You’re potentially endangering everybody on that train, because it doesn’t take THAT much for a train running at speed to leave the track.

Yep. I saw the video after I posed the comment. The two locomotives look to be derailed but up right and the bag car is leaning. Had to say but looks like about 8 - 10 passenger cars.
My wife and daughter took Amtrak on a vacation several years ago. Carolinian from Charlotte to Washington DC, then another train to Chicago (visiting a friend), then the Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle to spend a couple weeks visiting her aunt. They loved it. Service was good, no airport hassles, the scenery was stunning across Montana in particular. Unfortunately it’s expensive to get a sleeper setup, which you need on a trip like that.

Remember: Brandon said you must take the train and stop using your car, serfs.
