Multiple people are feared to have been killed after an Amtrak train carrying 243 people derailed close to Kansas City in Missouri.
It's still unclear what caused the smash - but one imaged shared by a survivor showed what appeared to be a broken truck axle lying to one side of the tracks.

You won’t want to do that on a cross-country trip. 8 hours from New England I could handle. Overnight, to Wisconsin, no thanks.
Superliner is not just west of Chicago. We’ve been on them and see plenty of them here in the East.
Unless they scaled that back, too. I admit my last was 19 years ago.
They aren’t found on any trains in the NEC between Boston and DC due to low clearances. The Capitol Limited from DC to Chicago via Pittsburgh and Cleveland runs them but nothing north of that. The Auto Train uses them and the City of NOLA between Chigago and, well, NOLA as well.

Initial indications: landing gear collapsed and the aircraft left the runway. Three hospitalized. Aircraft a total loss.
Been on the Capitol Ltd many times including that last.
Since we’re in the area that could be why we see them enough.
A fried has done the Lake Shore from Springfield to Chicago in both Coach and Sleeper. They said coach is doable, but wouldn’t want to go much farther. They were on the first coach car in the consist so not many people passing thru, which helped.
Summer and high gas prices.

“It’s deja vu all over again”!
Minus the House GOP.
Wonder what punishment the dispatcher received.
I grew up in Central CT. My school was next to the Hartford - Willimantic Highland route. The line was NHs autoroute and used to see Fords going past. Around 68 I took a picture of the freight leaving Pratt-Whitney for the last time.
Not sure, but one of the trains was running late due to a Steamboat being late.
