Based on a casual reading of the polls, Donald Trump looks to have smooth sailing to the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 and the chance to erase the stink of losing to Joe Biden that he so covets. But if that’s the case, why does Trump seem so panicky these days? Simple: Trump is in trouble, and — when you dig into the numbers — his grip on the GOP nomination is getting more tenuous. It is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) who has all the momentum.

That’s only a party rule. Not set in stone.
Opus?
You might want to read the 12th Amendmnent.
Trump may be a hypochondriac and germophobe, but all the lockdown mandates contuinued at state level while he exhorted them to open back up.
False dilemma.
How so?
What's in it for DeSantis? The vice presidency hasn't been a pathway to the White House for 200 years. He's better off staying governor till 2026 and then spend the two years running for the White House in 2028.
We take on new members all the time, which is fine, as long as these “new members” don't immediately start trolling and sewing dissent and division
I think it was a legitimate post.
It wasn't. It was a troll if I ever saw one.
How do you know it wasn’t a legitimate post?
“....The vice presidency hasn’t been a pathway to the White House for 200 years. ...”
In modern times
Truman*, Johnson*, Nixon, Ford*, Bush, Biden
* Special case
Looks as good as any.
It can be both, to a large degree. Saying either/or implies that Trump supporters are not and cannot be conservatives and that it’s incumbent on the site to reflect that POV.
You mean 2026.
You’re correct. I confused Senate and Gov terms.
I assume all new accounts are retreads and have been posting here for years under various names.
Is FR really bringing in new blood? I think the requirement to know a basic amount of HTML to post here probably keeps a lot of younger people away.
Truman, Johnson, and Ford assumed office when the presidency was vacant. Nixon ran as VP and lost, then ran again 8 years later. Biden did not run for the presidency as VP. The only one who went from VP to president via election is Bush. Prior to that you have to go back to Martin Van Buren.
It can be and should be. My point was that it appears to be either/or. The person I responded to wanted a DeSantis supporter kicked off the site. So I asked...
You did read the part where the 12th Amendment said that if they're from the same state then they cannot win that state's electoral votes, right?
Depends on the DeSantis supporter. The ones pushing the line “Trump’s done, so get behind DeSantis” (essentially, and long before anything’s decided) are going to be suspected of trolling.
I’ve been here awhile myself.
And I’m no fan of “The Hill”. But you really should have read the article itself. Of course there is some bias. There is bias both ways in everything we read. I think you are guessing it was a troll. You could be right. I don’t think so but time will tell. We’ll see what this new Freeper writes or if he writes anything at all in the future.
In any case, no harm intended by me. I just think we need to give the newbies a chance to get their feet wet here at good old FR before we toss them to the lions.
