You Won Your Gun Case. You’re Fired.

Kirkland & Ellis tells Paul Clement and a partner to dump their Second Amendment clients. They refuse and resign.

A 6-3 victory at the Supreme Court vindicating a constitutional right is usually cause for congratulations, but not these days at Kirkland & Ellis, the giant white-shoe law firm. The firm has rewarded partner Paul Clement for his triumph Thursday in the big New York gun-rights case (see nearby) by telling him to drop his gun clients or leave the firm.

As Mr. Clement and his litigation partner, Erin Murphy, explain nearby, they’re leaving the firm rather than dump their clients. That’s the honorable and ethical decision.

Yup. They could be THE go to 2nd amendment law firm. And while they’re at it start the 2nd Amendment Bank and Trust or 2nd Amendment Credit Union. They might get more support than they think. But, someone with REALLY deep pockets would need to be on board. 😊

Mr. Clement should have no problem starting his own firm.

“Kirkland & Ellis announced today its decision to no longer represent clients with respect to matters involving the interpretation of the Second Amendment,” the firm said in a press release, without explanation. It added that Mr. Clement and Ms. Murphy “will be leaving the firm in order to continue their full range of existing representations.”

Shed no tears. These two pro-constitution lawyers will be busy and making plenty of money in the future. All of these events succeed in revealing scoundrels, backstabbers and traitors to the USA. We now know the black hats from the white hats.

Your link accurately takes one to the story you reference, which is in the Wall Street Journal. But the name of the link as it appears in your post is the Washington Post. The Post would never run a story like this. Too accurate and even handed.

'Communism' and 'Fascism' ... Both are de humanizing and oppressive agendas for wholesale, totalitarian control of people and governments!

Good point but how about "people and industry", since they are already the "government".

In my 37 years of experience as an attorney, state bars lean left and won’t take a principled conservative stance on anything that’s controversial.

Good news. I hope more “prestigious” law firms show us their true mettle.

There’s a DUI specialist firm out in western Washington that advertises they don’t hire ex-prosecutors into their firm, and they give several great explanations why.

At least now you know where not to go for any legal representation, they would sell you out, as would Perkins Coie.

Not only should they leave the firm, they should take their clients with them.

-- Easy choice to make for soulless lawyers. --

Follow the money.

Government contracts too, as well as regulatory possibilities can be used to get companies to "jump" follwoing the puppet master. There is no need for direct action or strings.

Beat me to it.

Exactly right. No client, present or potential, can trust this law firm to fairly represent them. They obviously are willing to consider the wishes of clients other than those who have actions in progress at any given time.

That would be MOST law firms. It's always about money and power.
