Vladimir Putin has accused Western leaders of clinging "to the shadows of the past" as he creates a new world order with his invasion of Ukraine.
The world will not be as it was before the "special operation", Putin said in his speech at the plenary session of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
"It is erroneous to believe that one can sit and wait when the time of turbulent changes goes by, when everything goes back to where it was. It won't," Putin said.
According to him, the changes are fundamental, "crucial and inexorable”.
However, he said that Western countries "cling to shadows of the past".

The ruble is not backed by gold. You sound like an ignoramus when you say this and you have said it several times. I don't know where you are getting this "gold backed" idea from but it's incorrect. If you are getting this idea from someone else, you should stop listening to that person because they don't know what they are talking about. A currency that is "backed by gold" is exchangeable for physical gold on demand. There is no bank in Russia, or anywhere else in the world, where a holder of rubles can trade those rubles for physical gold and leave the bank with that gold on the spot. That is what "back by gold" means.
If you can't trade the currency for gold on demand, then saying it is "gold backed" is meaningless.

The whole point is if USA is such a “cesspool” why are people literally dying to get in? I am all for legal immigration. I want more of it. And the flood of people who would come only would go to show that the USA is not a “cesspool” as you claim, but rather Russia is since the flow is in the opposite direction. Come back to us when you have cogent, Russia is better than USA argument.
