“Apparently she is still close to her father to this day?”

That isn’t as uncommon as you might think.
My wife’s parents split up and she went to live with her paternal grandparents when she was 6 years old. Her grandfather started sexually abusing her when she was 8 years old. It lasted until she ran away when she was 17 years old.
When our own boys were about 6 she opened up and started talking to me about what she went through. I could never get her to condemn the man for anything. She always made excuses for him. Until the day he died she maintained a sense of loyalty to him.
I think that if she had condemned him she would have also, in her mind, been condemning herself.
I learned that the abused are seldom what we would call rational. Each one of them gets through it their own way. Some seek psychological help, most don’t.

Everyone deals with traumatic issues differently. Perhaps, Ashley may have it out of her system. Obviously, Hunter does not.
